    Default johnson milleniums 150

    hey all.

anyone here play the the johnson millenium 150? i'm thinking of checking out this amp when i find one for sale locally.

i remember about 8 or more years ago listening to someone in a store play this amp and i have some good memories of that but my sensibilities have changed over the years.

all i was able to find in terms of clips is here:

http://www.harmony-central.com/Guita...nium-spec.html and the johnson website requires a plugin i don't have access to to properly listen to a few of their clips.

the harmony clips sound more like they suffer from a very bad guitar player than the quality of the amp, but i'm curious if anyone here has played it, what are your opinions on it, doe it sound good, etc.

i don't play rock really, mostly noodle with clean sounds but would like to have a nice sounding toy anyway. i was impressed with the idea of the hughes and kettner switchblade but it turns out that amps is basically the same configuration as this one and i didn't like the sound samples of the switchblade at all.

thoughts on the johnson millenium anyone?

id reconsider the switchblade mate its an awsome amp and the quality is quite possibly the best you'll find anywhere (they test and double test everything twice on each stage of build) dont just trust soundbites u get on the web go out and try one.

I think they are the nicest sounding modeling amp you can buy. To bad they don't make them anymore, but they are cheap on Ebay.

What he said. I used to have a Millenium. Probably the best modelling amp ever, in terms of realistic tube sound. It actually has a tube preamp, but programming is very complicated.

I now own the Hughes & Kettner Switchblade, which is all tube, but has all the programming options of a modelling amp and then some. It's unreal! A great deal for $1299 (head version). My review is on Harmony central, third from the top of the page, by Nigel Tufnel:

I've had it since June, so let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck!

    the switchblade is all tube?

i thought only the preamp was tubes like in the johnson?

oh and btw, thank you for all the input so quickly, it is very much appreciated guys! i will try to get access to it a switchblade and test it out ... maybe i was being too harsh with their sound clips.

ALL tube: preamp, power amp and effects loop. I've owned modelling amps by just about every major manufacturer and while they all have their good points, nothing beats the H&K Switchblade. I rarely buy anything without trying it out, but there aren't many H&K dealers near me. After hearing the samples on the web and emailing an H&K product rep, I went for it, and it was the best equipment purchase I've ever made.

If you're familiar with the Line 6 Spider line, the concept is very similar and it's just as user-friendly (I haven't even cracked open the manual), but it's all tube. Fucking brilliant!

Any time. Like I said, send me a pm if you have questions. BTW, your fellow countryman, Alex Lifeson, has a H&K signature amp. It's amazing, but too rich for my blood. Best of luch witht the switchblade.
