MA mention in this month's Blender

On the last page of this month's Blender magazine, there is an article about unsung rock heroes. The author mentions Michael and makes reference to the Jack Daniels bass, and lists him as one of the "luckiest" people in rock history. Good timing, considering recent developments.

    The whole band was "lucky".

It's because the chemistry between the original 4 members of the band was so potent that success was inevitable.

Each member had something to contribute to the legendary Classic Van Halen sound & none of them should be overlooked.

With that in mind, every band member was lucky. Had they not all met, the indivdual members may never have scaled the heights they did as a collective...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony, Alex Van Halen, Sammy Hagar.

Mike was the luckiest guy by far
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

I dont know if he was the luckiest.... while most people sit back and wait for their train to come.. some go find it.... While Ed is everyone god & Dave was everyone hero, Mike was the sound..... AL should be the luckiest.. doesnt sing & any shlubb can play drums.....

If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

So by that line of reasoning, I guess Charlie Watts was lucky, and Ringo Starr was lucky, since neither were original members of the Stones and Beatles, respectively?

I guess John Paul Jones and John Bonham were lucky, too, since Led Zeppelin was originally going to be Page, Plant, and John Entwhistle and Keith Moon?
Not to mention, Entwhistle is the one who came up with the name, Led Zeppelin.

Van Halen would not have been the same without Mike. Maybe they would have been famous anyway....no way to know.
But they certainly wouldn't have sounded the same, and at the end of the day, who cares what the bass player or drummer is playing anyway, as long as they can stay in time?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Dude Ringo Starr is big LMFAO of the Beatles.

And that's VH who were lucky that Mike would lend them his bands amps, or whatever it was!

The whole band met up at the right time and had enough talent to make it in the first place. Luck's got nothing to do with it. Pure talent.

I dislike when people single out certain members of the band just to point out something negative.

    Shutting up now.

Michael Anthony was "lucky" that his bass playing perfectly complimented Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing and that his background vocals blended so well with David Lee Roth's vocals. David Lee Roth was "lucky" that he was such a dynamic frontman, clever lyricist and great interview. Eddie Van Halen was "lucky" that he was such an amazing guitar player, innovator and songwriter. Alex Van Halen was "lucky" that his drumming meshed so seemlessly with Eddie's guitar playing and Mike's bass playing.

Sure it did, however I think Both of you are right! You can take 4 guys who play and put them together to practice for years, BUT YOU CANT POLISH A TURD! In Van Halen's case, they were lucky that they met, & they were lucky they were all gifted! IMHO...
