    Default MAYBE EDDIE IS RIGHT

The next time someone on here tries to use the old "Mike does it for the fans not the money" line please take a gander at Michael Anthony's website store.

    http://www.madanthonycafe.com/macstore.html

Imagine, just for a second that Eddie was signing copies of the porn dvd (that he played in or financed or starred in for all i know) and was selling them on the Van Halen website for $250 a piece. This place would be going crazy with anti-Ed talk about how he doesn't care about his fans, only does it for the money, etc.

Yet, Michael is able to sell signed and numbered mustard for $250 and get no backlash. That's right $250 for a 3 pack of fucking mustard!!! If you only want it signed and not numbered he can give it away for only $125 (what a guy - taking food out of his kids mouth like that).

It really amuses me how Mike can pull this stunt and be the good guy, and yet when Eddie gives Mike the nickname Sauce that he's out of line. People say Ed ripped off the fans with the 2004 tour (which he did by the way - the shows weren't good) and that Mike was only there for the fans and is "the good guy". Maybe, just maybe, he was touring to keep his mustard empire growing. All of a sudden a $100 ticket to a not good show sounds like good value when you could barely get 1 bottle of signed mustard for that money.

Can't wait for Mike to start selling used JD bottles for $500 a pop - that's a friggin collectors item.

People think Ed is crazy. Crazy like a fox I say. He is more together now than he ever has been. He wants people to think he is crazy so when the new ablum drops everyone will be astoneshed when it sounds better then Fair Warning, 1984 and Van Halen I combined....that is if Dave ain't singing.

...and his sales will determine whether or not he needs to go on tour in 07 w/VH.
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

For one thing, restraint of trade is frowned upon in this country, so Mike can make money any way he desires.

Next take into account that as a bassist, while he may have endorsement deals out there, in no way can they compair to those of Ed Van Halen. How about the deal in which Anthony had to sign away some rights simply to tour w/VH in 2004? Like I said, Mike can make money any way he chooses, as can anyone else in this country, within standards of legality. Yes, there are folk out there willing to purchase mustard by the 3-pack for $250. You have the option of not being one of them.

Mike does not give off the odd vibe about money that EVH publically does, one need only to look at the vehement tracking down of those who appear to "infringe" upon his copyrights for example. Yes he has every right to protect himself and his assets, yet he makes few friends in the process.

Is there a double standard at work here regarding EVH's public perception virsus Mike Anthony's? Maybe. Yet one would truly need to take that up with the actual creators of those personnaes, wouldn't one?

I fail to see the connection here... Mike's not selling Van Halen hot sauce. Madanthonycafe.com is not an official Van Halen website.

    WTF is there to backlash?

Ed is selling Van Halen t-shirts, keychains, baby shirts, hats, wrist bands, stickers and crap off the Main VH site. Plus he's got his D-Tuna site and all his gear stuff.

Ed's pissed cause he ain't getting a cut of Mike's hot sauce. You think he isn't pissed that Sam is making millions off of everything that is cabo wabo? Could you imagine how much bigger CW tequila and the whole CW brand could have or would have been if it was "Van halen's Cabo Wabo" and VH was still out there putting out quality music? Ed's pissed to this day that they bailed on cw back in 96. Ed played his charvel guitars on the last tour but Sam could not say the words "cabo wabo" and Mike couldn't say the words "hot sauce", ed's just a bitter dude.

I see nothing wrong with Mike selling hot sauce, Dave selling his book and other items, Sam selling Tequila, clothes, food, and Eddie selling guitars and amps.

Unfortunately now, Eddie looks hypocritical when he takes the stance he has with this stuff though as he now produces and finances and scores porn. Its something far more controversial than frickin' condiments.

I could respect Ed's criticism if he wasn't selling all that stuff, and had some sort of consistent stance. But he is being completely illogical about this (from the info we have available to us).

i thought i was clear enough on this. Many here rip on Eddie for being a money hungry price but no one seems to think that selling signed hot sauce for $250 isn't the work of a money hungry prick? The point is that for all Eddie has done nothing is close to selling something that would cost $10 sunsigned for $250 signed. Can you imagine what we have to hear if Ed held a public autograph signing and charged everyone $200 per person? Can u imagine the backlash? How is Mike still Mr Good Guy when he's doing just that?

did Dave sell signed copies of his book for $250 a piece? is he did, let's hammer on him too.

Sammy has whored himself off for every product this side of the sun and gets criticized plenty so I'll lay off of him.

My point isn't to say that Ed isn't money hungry. My question is that why does Mike get a free pass for whoring himself like he has? Ed would get crucified if he sold signed copies of the porn he produced.

He is more together than he ever has been? That is as dumb as a assestment of Eddie as thinking Dave was going to be successfull on the radio.
Thinking that promoters will pay big upfront guarantees for a half baked reunion with Eddie's son is about as smart as well.
Hopefully management will convince the VH brothers that at the very least, you need a full reunion with Mike and Dave/Sammy.

Imagine the profit! If Anthony sells 1000 signed packages at $250 he just made $250,000! I gotta beleive that he could sell close to 1000 units per year, especially when out on the road with Sammy playing to a few hundred thousand people per year.

I'd say he is the smartest guy alive.

Exactly. That sums it all up.

How Mike is being a "money hungry prick" is beyond me. If you don't want the product, don't buy it. You want the sauce, then buy the unsigned bottles. You want the autograph, but don't want to pay that much, then try ebay. What's all the cryin about? And on top of that, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH VAN HALEN.

Ed is selling his new music through a porno that he has financial interest in. You can't get the music without buying the porno. There's a slight difference there, but still not a big deal. If you want it, buy it, if not then don't. Who cares?

This is just another attempt to discredit the only band member with his head screwed on right.

I got your drift... the point I see is the million dollar payouts to rock musicians isn't what it used to be. Especially for the big shots from 80's/90's who's relevance in the music business is fading at light-speed rates. The only way these guys can keep the cashflow going and maintain their millionare lifestyles is through merchandising and capitalizing on what little their past fame can buy them.

None of these lazy fucks can afford to take on a "regular" job... not to mention it's a totally foreign concept...
