I don't even know why I'm on this board, it doesn't really seem like a chick's place to be. And it doesn't seem to be a very happy place to be as of late either. I just wanna see Ed before he kicks off (yes, even in his current state.) So what I really need to know is how does anyone know when (or if) the '07 tour will actually happen. Seriously, who is the person with any credibility who will inform everyone else? How did y'all know for sure that the '04 thing would actually happen?

If you're looking for guaranteed future Van Halen, there's no such thing. Even after official announcements.

The only time you can be sure about present Van Halen is when you're holding a new CD in hand or you're attending a show that's ongoing as you breathe.

All else is subject to change.

C'mon fellas, work with me here. What constitutes an "official announcement"? The '04 thing did actually occur - how did you ultimately find out?

You've heard good advice, Eden. Only believe it when you're holding/watching it. Generally, the band or its management will release an official announcement after all parties involved have agreed to the terms of the project (record, tour, etc.). So until you hear or read something directly from the band, take it with a grain of salt.
