Default Shutting Down New Threads makes site look DEAD!!

I'm not trying to piss off Brett or anyone else, but lately every time I see a fresh perspective post, it has been shut down by mods. This is the only site that seems to have people actually policing the topics and lately it has gone a little overboard. Is it possible to lighten up on the lock down policy guys? Anyone else agree?

(If they shut this thread down it only proves my point)

They are just shutting down unnecessary threads. I mean, each thought that floats into one's mind on a possible reunion with CZ, or Mike being fired, or the RRHOF doesn't need it's own thread. I believe they are just trying to keep the board as clean as possible and guiding us to already existing and active threads on the appropriate topics.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

I think it looks crappy to have a bunch of locked threads underneath the active ones. But ehh. Doesn't make any difference to me.

Guys come on, put these topics in the right place. It's ironic you want less closed threads, but you put things in the wrong place at the same time.

But I completely disagree the site looks dead because of closed threads, it looks like a site that has too many of the same discussions going on in 50 different places. That's why 90% of them are being closed and the situation can be resolved if you asked yourself, "Does every thought I have on the VH reunion really need to be a new topic?"

Who's going to read 68 pages on the same subject?
It helps to refresh the conversations by letting the original ones from a while ago die. When I come here, it now looks like nothing new has been mentioned. Everything looks like a Tiajuana Jail around here. Every place else has more freedom of expression going on. I don't say this to slack on anyone, because this is my favorite site to check out on a daily basis. I just like seeing fresh threads and not so many locks.

A little common sense goes a long way. Seems t/b lacking around here for some reason.

I get lotsa thoughts about VH but that don't mean I'm gonna start a thread every time a new thought runs thru my VH-addled mind. It's effed up enough with all this speculation crap as it is.

Still, if you had left this topic in Current VH Section, where everyone goes, I believe that I'm far from alone on my feelings on this. It just gets wisked out of the main forum so quickly that others have no chance to voice their feelings on this. Oh well, it's your website. I'm just voicing what others are feeling. If you don't want to hear us, that's your choice. Arguing about it is pointless.

That's the FIRST problem, there are multiple forums on this site. If we wanted everything in one forum, we'd have one forum. The purpose of multiple forums is so that the board is organized. I mean come on, NOTHING has changed since the birth of the site with regard to that.

Why can't this topic be commented on in the place it SHOUDLD be, in Feedback? Why does the Feedback and Question forum exist then? It's for questions like this. The VH forums are about VH. The forums aren't a popularity contest, they're for organization. You don't go into the VH forums to talk about your favorite TV show, just like you don't use it to ask questions about the board. That's what the Feedback forum is for.

I'm not arguing with anyone. You asked for answer, I gave it, so did Goo. Isn't that what you wanted?

I just don't understand what has changed in the last 7 years here? Nothing we are doing are things we haven't always done. I'm just curious why lately everyone has an issue with everything being done.

Topics will be continued to be closed when they are duplicates and when they become ridiculously heated and useless. That's never changed, that's never going to change. We went through this same thing with the 2004 tour, but I don't recall such anger over it.

I know this is a little off from your main topic but, there is an option that I found to be helpful to explore the board, it's the "New Posts" option on the black bar. Instead of going to each and every forum to see what's new so that I don't miss something interesting, I click on it and it let's me check out every forum since the last time I visited. If it was used more, Main would not be the only place that people look. They could see all the forums with new info.

There are two historic problems you are addressing...Number One, a small amount of folks LOVE to start new threads for each and every VH thought they have...Guess what? Much of the time, those thoughts are both uninteresting and unoriginal. Name ONE hot thread that has been closed in the absence of ANOTHER thread covering the exact same topic...Hint...You won't be able to find one.

Number Two...How many "perspectives" on this "band" are actually left to explore? I don't know how long you have been around, but this is EXACTLY why Brett installed the merge feature a couple years back. In an attempt to INCREASE the conversation while giving it more focus, many threads are simply folded into other threads when the conversation is similar.

The idea that somehow Brett has become a knuckle rapper is pure revisionist history with absolutely NO basis in fact...

It's just getting a little too structured around here and it gets a bit stifling when you see the same threads week after week. Take a poll if you want the truth. Don't go by my words. I don't think that when things get ugly the posts should be left open for abusive stuff, but let's keep the water moving here guys. You can strong arm me into submission or you can let everyone have a voice in this. It's a decent site, but some things HAVE changed. (too many locked threads that would have been interesting topics) You are all good guys and I know you care about this site.

I got an idea... Start your own VH board and watch how chaotic it gets...

I have to agree with the others here. There is a shitload of messes they have to constantly clean up, especially in Main. There needs to be structure and I believe they are doing the best job they can... In fact, I'd probably close more threads just because they aren't addressing anything rather they are more opportunities for more shit-slinging-fests...

Your definition of fresh perspective is subjective. More often than not 'new' takes are almost always repeated perspectives. You probably don't want to take the time to reread back through longer or older threads. Laziness (in that you don't want to read X amount of pages in the same subject thread as you're wanting to explore) isn't really the mods' problem. It's your personal preference, sure, but that doesn't mean it's efficient for all users.

Damn Squalen....I always end up agreeing with you, even against myself. Yes it is partly laziness, and partly that a new thread is sitting there for me to check out and I get bummed out when it's shut down. And yes I know these guys do a great job with this site, that's why I'm here. I guess I just like "Fresh Threads".......

(You see, It's not what you are, it's how you dress. That's one thing I've learned from these guys I must confess.)
