Default Eddie talks guitars on HB 1995

    check it out...

"Well, he's an intelligent, well-read guy. But it's like he can't connect the dots somehow." (EVH Guitar World, March 1998).

GP: "Did you use a pick for "Spanish Fly"?

EVH: "Yeah, except for the part near the end that sounds like Montoya or something."

Got two of 'em with a 5150 head and cab, but like Eddie says, " it's all in the fingers." Nice interview.

what I found pretty funny about that was that he was talking about his main guitar and then in the footage of the concert that followed he was playing the purple EVH MusicMan with the Sustainer in the neck...

there's not a sustainer in the neck on that footage, aslo the reason he's using the purple ebmm is amsterdam is in a "dropped d" tuning and ed hadn't fitted the d-tuna at that time so it would have meant fiddling around with the nut so i guess the purple axe was already tuned to dropped d.

Great to see the Eddie we all remember. I'd love to see him that bright eyed and smiling again. Thanks for the clip, cool interview.

Just to hear him talking that intelligently about his gear and his guitar put a smile on my face. I just can't get over how much his voice has changed in 10 years. I know that sounds stupid but I can't believe it. Sure he had throat or tongue cancer but I am still in awe. You can just tell that he is sober in at least that interview.

I just love how that woman knows nothing about what he is talking about. "Yep".
    That's a harmonizer.
    "Yep"
    I'm Edward van Halen".

Why couldn't Ed have stayed sober???

Someone should dry his ass out, sit him down, and make him watch that interview so he can see how coherent he is layin' off the sauce...

The solo on Amsterdam was right on the money...

We can only hope and pray he gets his shit together again...

Interesting, how you can deduce that from the way she says "yep".

The woman is Vanessa Warwick from MTV Europe. She played in a few bands before she got her TV job and was married to a guitar player for some time. It's fairly likely, that she has no problem following eddies expositions.

I would deduce from your post that you are female, correct ?

Sorry if I offended you. I was thinking as I was writing that post, "I'm sure somebody is going to say that she is a guitar player herself and that I am a pig for saying what I am saying".

I should have known better. You can no longer joke anymore. Now this is going to turn into a men are more superior to women thread... I'm sorry.

Homeunit, any way this could be moved to main?? I think the difference between Ed then vs now is so dramatic, everyone would be interested in seeing it. I know it is primarily about guitars, but I think his apparent state of mind vs what we see today is so dramatically different, that it would be great in main. Sorry if it is a BS idea, but wow, what a difference, I mean, i've watched it a few times myself...man, like night and day!! Maybe just change the title of the thread??

I agree. I mean I don't entirely agree with some comments like, "Bring that Eddie back". However, I know those comments are well intended I mean its the same guy.. he has just changed his viewpoints and his outlook i think. But good ol' Ed is still there.

Me too man, me too. Watchin that reminded me of how fuckin badass the intro to Don't Tell Me sounded the first time I heard it.

I hate to put a negative spin on things, but it was something to listen to Eddie talk about Cabo Wabo and the Ernie Ball (...they only make 2,000 a month and shit like that) when he knew what was really going down then and there.

I'm not judging by any means, because we're all hippocrites and we're all assholes and such from time to time.

But fuckin A - I'm still floored by the transition of Ed's musical and mental state which was at the time of Balance, and then on into III. It's like fucking night and day. And then look what Van Halen is today...or isn't. Van Halen fans should be appointed honorary SERE instructors...
    FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!
