Dark and dirty rock, anything that is in the same style of Fair Warning. I'm not asking for a repeat but keep that nasty, rock your ass off, in your face sound. Edward pissed off and out to prove something, Dave writing intriguing, tongue in cheek lyrics with a hint of the blues, Alex pounding the skins till the beat is vibrating your entire body and Mikey playing the bass rhythm and background vocals that make the music groove.

A Women And Children First vibe would be good.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
Bobby: Who else?
Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

III (with MA on bass and backing vocals, and AVH on skins) with a healthy dash of DLR lyrics, and a detour or two into some serious riffage/evh grove. I usually lean to Sam, but after the mostly sub-par effort on BOBW, Dave should get to show what he can do. Sam wasn't the only poor performance on BOBW, imo. UFB lacked lyrically, but jammed in regards to the rest. LTS was a good job lyrically, but the music just didn't fit the song (or anything else). IAT just...well, didn't live up to the name of the song. So give the microphone to Dave, and hope for a much better result.

For a record, I'd prefer something with Dave singing and writing lyrics and melodies. I'd hope muscially it would be something that kind of takes off from the two songs they recorded in 1996. I loved that sound. To me, Humans Being and the two Dave songs were extensions of the Balance sound to a degree, and I really liked where that was headed.
If I can't have that -- I'd take a Fair Warning type effort. I'm afraid I'll get none of it, though.SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS
"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls
"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

Great question for reading answers..
I'd like Ed to summon his Mad Scientist meets Godzilla mindset and just let it pour out.
Whatever moves him, while DLR is challenging him is the magic formula.
Alex and Mike bring the bottom the way they can and Mike harmonizes and i dont care what you wanna call it...I call it a band getting-off on their craft and recording the result..That's all i want-just be what you are and let it flow.
The one thing i DON'T WANT is any contrived attempt to re-create anything.
As long as it is an honest, passionate journey, they'll be amazing.
Incidentally, the point of what i dont want is much more important than what i'd like to hear. I'd MUCH rather them hang it up now than to have them pretend it is 1978 again, or1984, or anything other than wherever they are musically right now, whatever that may be.

I tend to agree with you but I can guarantee if Rise and Catherine were instrumentals on a Van Halen album. All the nay sayers would love those songs.
But any who. I agree... I'll take any sound... except maybe Ed's tone on III. It was a cool album and I like the material but it ain't for Dave. If I had to pick Ed's tone my answer would be VH I. No tone on any other album matches that brown sound baby. But in terms of lyrics and background vocals and drums from Alex... Fair Warning all the way.
They should do a song in the style of Romeo Delight... I could picture a new song sounding like that, if you know what I mean.
Great point. I do not want to see them just try and do what they have done before. But I can almost guarantee Edward won't allow that to happen. He's always moving forwards musically. But I have a feeling Diamond Dave wants to stick with the old style. Dave has always said that he is tired of Eddie tirelessly trying to come up with a new sound and new style. I tend to agree with Dave as well on this. As much as I don't want them to just do the same old thing. I definately do not want them to go out in left field like on III just to sound new and fresh. I would much rather just listen to the old material.
But the main thing is... GET RID OF THE GOD DAMN SUSTAINER ED!!!!!! It's cool in some parts... but it does have an off switch as well, you do know that eh?Last edited by MF5150; 11.23.06 at 09:51 PM.
