    Default Female Singer

If indeed this 2007 tour happens, would VH ever consider a female "frontman"? I would love to see some chick who could really rock it out, like Pink or Joan Jett (Joan's still out there doing her thing.) Or Ann Wilson, Melissa Etheridge? Maybe they're too mature, figuratively speaking. A female lead might make for some interesting dynamics; at least Ed wouldn't feel competitive with her. Although probably Al would always be trying to "date" her.

After Gary left the band, a friend and I talked at a bar one night for hours on this subject. Most will laugh, but we decided that Chrissie Hynde would be the perfect "chick" to step in and yank these lost, misguided "cocks" back in to line. Like I said, most will laugh, but Chrissie is a leader, plays excellent rhythm guitar, writes lyrics that run the gamut from emotional to cocky and has a voice that can be sincere or spit vinegar when needed.
Chrissie also comes from about the same era of music as VH, that had that punk/pop/rock attitude. Imagine VH doing Pretenders songs like My City Was Gone, Popstar or Up The Neck and Chrissie doing... well, just about anything from the first 6 albums. The sexual tension and role reversal would really be unique.
So go ahead and laugh, it's not like it would ever happen anyway

Melissa Etheridge? I thought you were talking about female singers?

I could see Amy Lee from Evanascence. I like her voice anyway.

Eddie and his sustainer with that chicks voice could be a very haunting sound.
It would be cool to hear Eddie and her do something together. But it would need to be some side project and not Van Halen.

    I'll call "VAN ESSENCE"
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Haven't we had enough disruption to the VH formula? VH is in many ways testosterone-driven.

Its like the Rolling Stones fronted by Pat Benetar. WTF?

Lets pray that enough is enough with the lineup changes. Go with Dave, Sammy, or both, and Ed, Al, & Mike. That is the magic.

oh, come on now, don't be mean. Melissa is really raw. I don't know who Amy Lee is, maybe I'm too old to be up on her. Chrissy Hynde (sp?), never would've thought of her. That would be a sight to see!

But the Rolling Stones have never needed another singer...

I would love to see Dave and Sam share the stage, each singing the songs from their era. That would be the ultimate for the fans. But their egos would never allow that. Or it could just be Dave singing the guy-friendly songs, and whatever chick they got could sing the songs a guy or girl could do. And Sam, well I guess we've already have had enough of him, imo.

No, this topic is redundant and ridicules. We're all too aware of the Patty Smyth sitch prior to Hagar and Jimmy Barnes.

Seriously and at this point it has to be Dave or the Grave.

As I're stated prior though. If there's no Anthony live, I'm all for some epic female backing singers to fill Anthony's high pitched harmonies!!!

Female back-up singers? now there's an original idea. But then again, Al would probably be tryin' to hook up with 'em, all of them. And the thought of no Mikey background vocals - I couldn't stand that!

Apparently Canadian rocker Sass Jordan also jammed with VH prior to Gary's hiring and was being considered for the gig...She can wail, but it would be a little odd to hear her or any other female singing songs like" Poundcake" or "Everybody Wants Some!"...
