    Default Trying to quit....

    Hey guys! i havent posted her in a quite some time... been quite busy this year...graduated college in may, got married in october and started workin full time at the hospital..which sucks ass... thats a whole other story though...so me and my husband are trying to quit smoking... tried to stop in the past, but to no avail...and its even harder since we have two people in the house that smoke... we tried the gums, losenges, and he is now trying this stuff called peppermint catch swedish snus which is tobbaco and nicotine in a little tea bag that you put between your gum and cheek, seems to work for him....your suppose to swallow the secretions that come out of it and the peppermint flavor combined with the tabbaco tastes gross to me...lol that same company has other flavors like wild berries, citrus, and other mint flavors, so i'm gonna try that again maybe it'll be better...but if you all have any other suggestions feel free to give them...
    also you'll be hearing from me a lot more since things have finally settled down...
    waiting for inspiration to take place here....

    I don't have any answers about quitting, otherwise I could get mrs007 to stop, but since smoking often seems like a communal activity, it would seem that there being two of you that that should help as you can support and encourage each other and know that you're both experiencing the same thing. I think the best way (though not always the practical way) to conquer a behaviour is to identify the situations that trigger the behaviour and try to avoid them until you have control of the behaviour. Again, that's not always practical, but if things like stepping into a bar inspire you to start up - stay out of the bars until you have the habit in check. And if you think you have the habit controlled, and you decide to go into a bar and the urge returns, it might be best to leave and wait a little longer for that night out. If your work buddies are always inviting you outside to burn one, instead politely decline and use that time for a bathroom break or something. Just my theory.

    Seriously, it's tough, I hope y'all make it.

    My mom tried acupuncture, insurance covered it and she quit two years ago after 40 years.

    Billy's right, its very situational, but you probably already know that.

    Just don't give up, and try to get your mind on something else, you'll find yourself realizing you just went a few minutes without thinking about it.

    i don't understand addiction. i can smoke for a week, quit and not feel any nicotine cravings.

    i think i'm going with sex, and lots of it... my husband will probably like that... everything else just doesnt sound as fun.... and it will keep my mind off smoking... too bad he's working today.... oh well, i'll start my "exercises" tonight and this weekend should be fun
    and it also helps that our hospital is smoke free, so i cant smoke at work....

    Same here. Maybe a couple every few months but that's about it for me. One of my cousins smokes like a chimney and her poor kids gotta live with that. The smell is in everything and it's pretty nasty. I can tolerate it once in a while but non-stop two packs a day kinda thing is a bit much.
