I sent an email to Sharon Uhl suhl@rockhall.org at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame asking if Sammy & Gary would be included if Van Halen gets inducted. The following was the unfortunate response. I sent the email to Mrs. Uhl, why it was signed by Terry Stewart President I don't know.


Thanks for your email. Sammy is included in the list of band members to be inducted if they are successful in getting enough votes. Gary is not.

As far as I'm concerned, Gary not getting in, is a no-brainer. Come 'on, he was there for one forgettable album and tour and then he was gone.

I think he'd make a great induction speech, by letting us know how hard it was to work with this band live and in the studio and not have anybody except it. A testament to how enduring the dinosaur versions of Van Halen are all the people want.

Like him or not, Gary was an accomodating guy for the fans. He was open to covering the classics, and was himself a big VH fan. I'd like to see the band do the right thing and include Gary.

Bigdaddy_14, I don't think your negative to say Gary should go in, but I think it's a stretch to say it's a farce if he doesn't. He just wasn't there long enough to justify inclusion. The album and the tour were a failure (judged by previous standards set by both Roth & Hagar) It's not Gary's fault. I just think it's a case of Van Halen thinkin' they could bring in a 3rd singer and not miss a beat. I didn't realize it at the time but the band was extremely fortunate that Hagar worked out so well after Roth left. The odds were against them to have luck a 3rd time. That's why I want them to either hook up with Dave again or just call it quits as band.
