How rare are the original gold necklaces?

hey, i was wondering the vhstore has the reissue silver necklaces, how rare are the original gold necklaces the boys used to wear? Im asking because I do own one and wear it pretty regularly, and if they are as rare as I think they might be, it may be a better idea to order the new one and put this one in a safe place? thanks guys

I always thought these were all silver in color...Cool! I'm not sure what color this one is but it's not stated in the auction. The description does say "On the back of the Van Halen emblem is stamped: Van Halen productions, made in USA, 1980." I don't see these on ebay to often and it would appear from the closing price and the number of bids...Id' say there is definately a demand for these.

I think they would look much better if they were accurate. They only have two "wings" instead of the standard three.

I have one of the original silver necklaces I was sent from the fan club back in the day...

Eddie always wore the silver necklace.

If I remember correctly, Dave's book alluded to the fact that VH's management / record company actually gave the band the necklaces as a gift. Only to find out later that the band actually ended up paying for them on their own expense account. Imagine getting a X-mas gift only find out your boss charged it on YOUR credit card...

I've had a few of them over the past 23 years or so. I even had 1 made by a local jeweler here in CT out of sterling silver about 15 years ago. I still wear it to every VH show. I did have a gold one but it was plated and I wore it so often that my neck turned green!

They are indeed rare. The original ones came with a leather case. I have one of the necklaces, and case, and I keep it safely tucked away.

My wife had a jeweler that her family always uses make me a gold VH necklace. She gave it to me in 2000; I haven't taken it off since. She found a bunch of pics from the old days and the jeweler just went off of those.

I think it looks cooler with the 2 wings anyway. 3 would look crammed.
Anyway I have a gold and silver one and wouldnt part with it for anything.

I have a gold one, I haven't taken it off since 1986, over 20 years. Honestly I forgot how I got it and yeah it says "Van Halen Productions 1980" on the back, but I think they all say that. I was thinking of getting a reissue silver one, I like silver better. My neck has never turned green from it and I never take it off.

Here's another necklace on ebay that is a little different and more accurate as far as "wings" go. This is one of two that I remember from long ago. I think either my brother or I had this one but missplaced it along the way. Anyway, If anyone is interested/curious...check it out.
