I've never actually picked up the BEST OF - DVD and was wondering if it's worth it. Is the remastering excellent on the videos? And how's the sound? I presume it's Dolby Stereo, not Dolby 5.1 Surround.

My problem, looking at the box, is that there are so many other videos they could have included. It should have been (at the very least, if we're including official videos):

1) Runnin' With The Devil
2) You Really Got Me
3) Jamie's Cryin'
4) Bottoms Up
5) Dance The Night Away
6) Unchained
7) So This Is Love
8) Hear About It Later
9) Pretty Woman
10) Jump
11) Panama
12) Hot For Teacher
13) Dreams
14) When It's Love
15) Feels So Good
16) Finish What Ya Started
17) Top Of The World
18) Runaround
19) Poundcake
20) Right Now
21) Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)
22) Can't Stop Loving You
23) Amsterdam
24) Not Enough
25) Humans Being
26) Without You

At the very least, this is what it could have been, if we're leaving out unofficial or unreleased videos, such as the unreleased video for LOSS OF CONTROL that I read about.

I may be missing a few. In fact, I'm sure I am.

Anyway, should I buy it? Is it worth it?

i bought the dvd for almost 40 US Dollars here in Luxembourg

it has no bonus material
it has a very lame menubar
no extras, no interviews, no booklets, nothing

all the clips are in good dvd quality, in the jump video i even noticed a red spot on DLR's face, (sharp razor)

the great evh solo in human beings is left out

the only reason why to buy this dvd is because there is no other VH DVD with videoclips out there. they could have done a terrific job, but they didn't. still i would buy it again, coz i didn't have panama or hot4teacher on vhs, and boy, was i happy when i saw these two again, after almost 15 years.

cheers,

SToRM
dave, we'd like to go upstairs, the two of us, with you ...

Sorry Rikk, I can't comment on the quality, but I totally agree that they dropped the ball releasing a video package with so many holes in it. It's still probably worth buying just because there's very little chance of VH re-doing the package any time soon. If there was any chance of a re-release, I'd hold off and see if they improve the content, but I doubt they will.

I have the VHS version of Video Hits Volume 1. Without You isn't on the VHS version but it is on the DVD.

The video hits didn't really appeal to me. I wanted to buy the Live! DVD, but I realized that they didn't bother remixing it for 5.1 or DTS. That's pretty shitty.

I picked up the Steely Dan live DVD, and the sound is incredible. They used DTS, and I get a kick out of the distinct channels. I'm sitting listening, and suddenly there's a sax booming from behind me. Awesome stuff.

I would think Eddie would be into playing with sound like that.

I've got it, but it has to be said its a pretty basic package. They didnt exactly overexert themselves in preparing it.

Its ok I guess, just dont expect the sound to take full advantage of DVD. Or anything even resembling a bonus.

Cheap bastards.

Everything would be forgiven, however, if they brought out a two-hour DVD containing the entire FAIR WARNING tour performance from Oakland (where the videos for Unchained, So This Is Love and Hear About It Later were filmed). Imagine. The whole concert, professionally-filmed and edited. And the sound remixed in DTS 5.1. And there could be bonuses, like backstage footage (if they filmed any) etc.

That would be one insane DVD. I would go nuts watching that, considering the performance of UNCHAINED is one of the best I've ever seen (any song, any band).

Oh well. I'll make due with RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW and BEST OF. Pretty bare packages. At least they could bring out LIVE WITHOUT A NET on DVD. That's a great video.

Hey, how about bringing out the US Festival on DVD? That would piss off a lot of bootleggers! I had to pay $20 for my first copy, and it was horrible. Finally, I got a much better copy in a trade.

It's not their best performance (some poor moments in playing, many better performances on that tour), but it's certainly a notorious enough performance!
