    Default when it's love ?

Can anyone tell if or what effects and amp set up EVH uses on when it's love?
I can play it both on keyboard and guitar but I can't get a good tone.

i think it was just a marshall amp and the effects he used where a chorus reverb and a bit of delay what effects are u using coz i can get a pretty close tone with a digitech rp80 mulit effects pedal (even closer without an amp and straight into a board)

I always thought he was playing a strat on that tune, I know Ed used different guitars and amps in the studio. Could be a Soldano amp he was using not sure though.

That was just his normal set-up for that period. Marshall head, bradshaw rig, etc. Effects were just slight pitch and delay. . .same as always.

Homer: No one snuggles with Max Power. Just strap on and feel the Gs!

American Coast Guard: Back off Canadians we got them.
Canadian Coast Guard: You back off hosers, they are in Canadian waters, eh.
American Coast Guard: Beat it you puck smacking maple suckers!
Canadian Coast Guard: Take a hike you Shatner stealing Mexico touchers!

Bart: Who the hell is this?
Jack Bauer: I’m Jack Bauer, who the hell is this?
Bart: Me, er… I’m Ahmed Adudi
Jack: Chloe, get me all you can on Ahmed Adudi… Does anyone there know Ahmed Adudi?
Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…
    Jack: … Really?
Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.
    Jack: DAMMIT!

yeah the tone on that solo is defenitely not a bridge humbucker.

sounds kinda bassy and dark , like a semi dirty neck pickup.

The solo was recorded direct. What I've never been able to find out is through WHAT. Eddie said in several interviews back in the day that he recorded that solo direct, but he must have been going through some sort of pre-amp or chorus to accomplish the tone.

Careful with your gain (must maintain clarity) and use gobs of slight detune.

In other words, you don't get out of control with how many cents you detune, you just jack-up the amount of effect used.

Jack up the depth, but leave the rate as low as possible. That's similar to what Glimour does a lot. Really fattens things up.

You are correct if you're using chorus (rate & depth), but pitch shift doesn't have a 'rate.' You just slightly shift your left and right outputs (maybe -6, +8).

And, as for going direct. . .I think you're getting confused with Finish What You Started. He's said many times that he used an old strat, direct into the board for that song. I'd be willing to bet the farm he was mic'd up for When It's Love.

For some reason, I was thinking chorus. Apologies. Although, that technique (max depth/min rate) with chorus comes pretty close.

I don't play guitar so this might sound really dumb but isn't the very begining of the solo recorded backwards or something? I thought I remembered reading that Don Landee did something like that to a part of the solo for WIL. Anyway if not, sorry. I was just passing through.

No, he's bending the string and then releasing. Normally you pick a note and bend, but he's bending first, then picking, then what you hear is just the descent of the string.
