LOL!! I have not been in contact with..uhhh...Andy's brother for a few years. I do bet that my old buddy would change his name to Barney Fife or Gomer just for a joke though! It was a blast hanging out with him, but I am glad I got away with all of the trouble we could have got in to. This is hilarious!

Yes it was Andy Taylor. There's a bronze statue of him and Opie in one of the parks in Raleigh here. They built it life size right at ground level, so the fishing poles keep getting snapped off.

Before he made it, Andy taught drama at Goldboro High School, across town from where I went to high school (of course it was in the 50s). Ironically he reportedly had a tendency to try to break students of their southern accents and then got famous with "What it was was football", and "No Time for Sergants".

Yep. I'll leave the name out for now in case anybody else takes a shot.

Keep in mind I was 7 or 8, but I remember the pilot for it being really good as far as TV movies go.

There was a couple of years after Star Wars where anything space related would get at least one season on TV. After this week's South Park I had to find the beginning of Buck Rogers on YouTube and show it to the <=25 year olds at work who had no idea.
