You bet your ass they can. And you can bet the house that they will.

You see by EVH's way of thinking...It can always be called Van Halen as long as someone with the last name Van Halen is a member of the band. On some level he is correct. I mean regardless of who's in the band if you enjoy the music they make, should the name really matter (as long as their is no copyright infringement of course

)?

However from a fan perspective, many fans feel that the sound of the band transends the name. Van Halen is a way of life. For example, the "classic" VH line-up will forever be associated with partying and good times. So many fans feel that the name belongs to 4 people (or 5 depending on if you ever supported Sammy or even 6 if you supported Sammy and Gary as well).

Is it Black Sabbath or Lynyrd Skynyrd? It all depends how you feel about it. To me Black Sabbath will always only be the original four. Lynyrd Skynyrd on the other hand is just as good today as they were prior to the tragedy.

I personally don't care what they call the band, as long as the music contunues to be good.

I'm sorry but I can't hold it in anymore. Integral my ass. nostalgic ok but integral no. his background vocals are nothing special. I've been tuning in lately cuz i've heard that his vocals were sooooo important and everytime I hear it I laugh my ass off cuz it's all throat screaming. integral. there's a deep word. fuckin joke.

keep in mind I don't have a damn thing against mikey cuz he holds down the bass and lets's the chef's do the cookin. but this martyr cry is so old. it makes me want to cheer for the new guy quite honestly.

While the background vocals were part of the signature sound, I'm sure DLR and The Brothers can find two or three smoking hot chicks to stand on the side of the stage (scantily clad mind you) and replicate Mikey's background vocals. As Dave would say, "it ain't rocket surgery".
