Default Guitar + Computer + POD

Hello guys, I've started to use my one year old pod now, for the computer, which sounds very good, but I got a few questions i haven't been able to get answer to, I got a PEavey Wolfgang Standard which i bought for just 1 month ago, thanks too all of you helping me out here.

I got 4 standard deskspeakears and one subwoffer, if that makes any sense, but anyway..Which settings should I use, i connect my pod to the microphone input on the computer, and i get great sound, but a little bit noisy when i don't play. I got some few questions here

    1. How high should my microphone volume be, on the computer? SHould I use micophone boost for best sound?

    2. I got two types of volume on my POD 2.0 one caleld Channel Volume, one called Output level, and one Drive ofcourse, but to get a kinda rocky tone, with kinda much distortion, how should I set up it all up together?

    Thanks for all answers!

It is best to connect your POD to the line input on your soundcard, not the microphone input. With the microphone input, you will get excess noise and probably a pretty muffled high end.

In a recording program, even a simple one like Audacity, you can check your signal level with the built-in VU meters. You will probably want to adjust your line input volume fairly high, but not to the point where it starts hitting 0 dB on the VU and clipping. If you do use Audacity, note that you can only see your level on the VU after you've pressed the record button.

I just got Audacity with my M-Audio Microtrack recorder. Is it worth using? Easy to use? I hate reading manuals! Thanks.

Thanks for you help, but i'll use Sound Forge from Sony, isn't that kinda good too?

Well anyway, i'd put my POD 2.0 which NOT is USB connectable, into the Line In input, but I only get sound out of my left side speakers, what can the problem be?

Thank you for your help, keep up the discussion!

    Long live guitars!

I think I solve that last problem its my sound cable that is fucked up, but what is the best way to get record of a backing track or a song to play along with, like people do on youtube.

I need some sort of backing track to play to, and you must select your record output in windows, either Microphone or Line in, which is called Analog Mix/AUX or something like that. Can I get record from the channel which plays the backing track or tune?

If you hook your POD to the LINE INPUT of your sound card, you should be doing fine. Microphone input has an extra preamp on the soundcard. When using the LINE INPUT, just set the levels using the VOLUME CONTROL panel on WINDOWS and then choose OPTIONS->PROPERTIES->RECORDING to set the input level for the LINE INPUT. Set the POD to maybe 1/2 of full volume and adjust input levels on computer accordingly. Should sound pretty good.

As for backing tracks, goto http://www.guitarbt.com/
and have fun. Tons of stuff out there. My vocalist and I did a gig with 20 tracks off this site when our drummer was icognito and it worked out great. Good quality (for the most part).

    Good Luck

Maybe a stupid question, but why not get a Line-6 Guitar Port?
