What's the problem with VH?
Based on the available media (i.e., internet, magazines, etc.), it's obvious that VH has the potential to be as popular as ever. But what about a continuous presence in the music industry. What's the problem? We all know they have written music during their time off. What about 2007 and beyond? Again, what's the real problem.

I would vote for "the whole damn lot of 'em" , excluding Mike, but it's not avail.

I have seen no evidence in the media that indicates Van Halen could be as popular as ever. If anything, it's the contrary...other than rubbernecking music fans who moderately note the sideshow freak antics, the Van Halen soap opera is worth at best a few columns at the music online gossip rags, and not much more.
This poll is redundant. I think we all know where the problem lies, and those who don't yet have their heads buried so far in the sand they'll never figure it out.

there's no problem, we are all living in the past. Sammy and Mike know this, they've moved on. Al seems to have moved on, we haven't heard a peep since 2004 from him. Dave has nothing else to do, but relive his glory days(79'-83'). Ed is in his own world as usual.
nothin new here kids.Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it. DLR

33% say Mike's ego? That is the stupidest bunch of horseshit I've ever read on here.

I hope he doesn't read here, assuming he is in fact the new bassist for Van Halen.
He ain't gonna like the next year online, if he's a net geek who checks. Hopefully he'll adopt his dad's 'tude about the 'net and not read the BS. The 'fat' cracks are unnecessary, btw. The new kid bassist vs. Mike stuff is necessary, however.
It's actually a good point, those who've brought it up. Ed is putting his kid in a tight spot...I hope he's prepped him for fan backlash. It won't happen at every show, but surely it'll happen at a few. Somebody in a front row will throw a comment, and Ed won't like it. God forbid there's any booing if they let Wolfie do a bass solo. I can just see Edward saying fuck you guys, we're outta here, and cancelling the show.
It's a big shadow that kid'll have to live under, and a considerable amount of fans won't let 'em forget it. Enough to notice, I think. Gotta have a thick skin for this business, especially in the face of a long-awaited reunion tainted by the replacement of an original band member for no seemingly valid reason other than spite.

I'd have to guess the Wolfgang has been prepped and ready for the negative reactions that will come down from what his father is preposing to do. Whatever the case is with the boy, it should make him quite aggresive in the proof of his talents.

Years ago Ed's the last person I would have said had an ego. Nowadays, I ain't so sure. For a long time, Ed painted a picture of Dave and later Sammy as having these big egos or lead singer syndrome (LSD) who always tried to overshadow him. Ed has always painted himself as this shy person who shuns the spotlight. So what's the problem then? He's in the background where he says he prefers to be, and Dave and Sammy are front and center, where they like to be. Were Dave and Sammy supposed to become wallflowers and blend into the background so Ed everybody could take notice of Ed? What's really goin' on here? Oh, wait maybe Ed's the one with the big ego. Everybody and their brother know Edward Van Halen is the thee guitarist of his generation. He's got guitarist of the year awards up to ying-yang to prove it. Having said this, it's not Ed's ego that's screwed this band, it's his alcohol & drugs problem. Nuff said!
