Just the usual anti-VH stuff from the time period, but good reading.

In this interview, Sammy seems to be hurting from his breakup with Van Halen... He seems very happy and excited to prove that he has gotten on with life after Van Halen. All the while, he knows that he and the other members of were the best thing that ever happened in his life...

Thanks for that interview Grant.
I like this part about "Humans Being":
"That was the first time that we started fighting and that song is a piece of shit if you want my opinion. It's not a piece of shit, Van Halen is not capable of making a piece of shit, except for their new record."

Sammy:"And David Lee Roth claims that Gary Cherone was already in the band and I'm going, "What!?" Who knows what the fuck they were thinking, but obviously it wasn't very on the up and up. You don't do that to your friends. "
Well, Sammy seems to believe that this could be possible...
Sammy:"We sold 42 million records together..."
I think Sammy is a little off on his numbers here, by about 20 million or so...

Sammy:It's not like Van Halen where everyone did what they wanted. That band, when I was in the band, it's changed now because this is Eddie's solo album, this is the Eddie solo years, but previous to this Eddie would come up with some music and Al would play any kind of drums that he wanted to. No one ever said, "No, Al. Why don't you play like this." Very seldom. Mikey would play the bass the way he wanted to, Mikey is not even playing on this new record. It's Eddie playing bass, and everything. Which is great, Eddie's a great bass player, but it's not a band anymore.
C: They didn't have Mike playing bass at all?
Sammy: If you interview them and you want to see some faces go sour, and have Eddie jump up and start talking for everybody, ask Mikey and say; "So how many songs did you play bass on, on this record?" I'm telling you, I've been in that band, Mikey is not playing bass on this record - it is all Eddie.

Perhaps Eddie has listened to too many Boston records.... doing all the instruments, coming out with records over long periods of time, etc. Hopefully Eddie will let the "other" band mates have their freedom on this record.
And beyond the horizon.... a sound was heard.

I gotta say that Sammy is also very impressive in this interview. He's honest, I have no problem with him revealing dark secrets about the band, such as how III was recorded.
And he's honest about how Dave was treated (practically calling it unfair) and is honest about his overall positive feelings about the guys except rightfully pointing out that they stabbed him in the back (which they did).
I gotta say, I'm not crazy about all the man's music. But he has definite talent, and he proves once again in this interview that he's a class act. The only times Hagar infuriated me were with his below-the-belt insults towards Roth. But the two no longer insult each other, and I'd love to be a fly-on-the-wall if Van Halen's two singers ever had a drink together or something. They'd probably both enjoy it. They don't hate each other.
Once again, thanks a bunch, Grant. Post it on the site. It's a great read and at least it's something to look at while we continue "enjoying" no new Van Halen news."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

I always thought the bass sounded suspiciously like Eddie on that album, nice to see it's true. I know Dave said in his book they were trying to replace Mikey back in '96. Wonder what's up with that?
I also noticed recently on the BOV1 that Mike is not listed as a writer on Jump or Panama. Old topic, but anybody know the scoop?

The fact that Mike didnt even play bass on the Cherone release, only makes me hate that CD more than I already do !!
I always said that the Cherone release should have been called "The Eddie Van Halen solo project" because it sounds more and more like that is what that was.
Too bad so sad for Mike Anthony and that band we used to know called Van Halen !!

I don't know, dude, the two songs were specifically broken away from the other DLR era songs for writing credits. Just curious.

And Sammy's comments towards VHIII were not insulting? It infurates you if Sammy insults Roth, yet not VH, Eddie's drinking, or their music?
