I just basically stayed up all night reading that--because I'd never seen it before.

Sammy definitely takes a slant from time-to-time, and he draws some conclusions more than he should, but his success and consistency since leaving Van Halen is a testament to the idea that he did hold a strong leadership role in the band before Ray Danniels. And Eddie and Alex ended up suing Ray after they fired him over that whole past catalog revenues thing.

And now this: I never knew Michael was getting shafted SO far back! The 2004 tour wasn't the first time Mike was bascially a hired gun. No revenue from the albums or publishing? Less pay for the shows? He was almost replaced before each album they did with him? The debates raging elsewhere on this forum about what is or is not classic VH and so forth are so on-the-surface when taking all these business considerations into account.

I wouldn't have minded hearing the next VH record with Sammy.

it really doesnt look like hagar wrote though. there is a lot of "hagar said" in there. so maybe an outsider had written it - unauthorized. so could be one reason book never saw light of day. good read though.

ray daniels is the devil. he killed van halen.

This story has been floating around for years. I wonder if it will ever see the light of day. Maybe summer of 2007, while VH is on tour with Roth, as a little payback to the brothers. (Especially if Mikey's not in the mix.)

It makes Alex & Eddie look pretty bad. Damn. No wonder Eddie got Cherone so he would have complete control over every band member.

If this is all true, that is.

Ray Daniels really seems evil. Funny thing though, I think the guys in Rush are really good (and intelligent) guys...why do they associate with Ray and have him as manager if he is such a scumbag?

There is another side to this story, I'm sure.

Yes, that's the part that doesn't quite click. It's true, though, that Rush could sell more albums and been on MTV more than they were. I also heard that Ray has no involvement in anything to do with Rush except their business affairs--no creative input or anything of the kind.

After reading this, it makes me think that while Sammy & Dave may not like one another, both their assessments of the Van Halen's and Mike Anthony are in synch. I'm convinced substance abuse is a big part of the problem. Dave alluded to this in his book. Dave & Sammy both admitted to drug & alchohol use but neither let it control them to the extent it has Ed and a lessor extent Al. Thank god for Dave and Sammy; if it weren't for these guys I'm convinced the Van Halen's would have not have enjoyed the commercial success they've had. It's one thing to be talented; it's another thing to know how to channel that talent into somethin' cohesive. All that stuff about Dave being jealous of Ed, I don't buy it. Ed is just so f#@king insecure that any lead singer with even the sightest bit of confidence is goin' to be a threat to him. I believe the general dysfunction of the Van Halen Bros, created a scenario where Dave or Sammy had no choice but to split.

As for Mike Anthony, what can I say. The guy is just too passive. Dave has inferred Mike's "soft" and so did Sammy in those excerpts. I think both Dave & Sammy believe Mike has undervalued his contribution to the band and therefore let Ed & Al piss on him at any opportunity. Perhaps if Mike had stood up to the Van Halen's from time to time, the band wouldn't have sunken to such lows.

Thank goodness for that.

Maybe Ray realizes that Lee/Lifeson/Peart would sniff out any bullshit from a mile off, so he doesn't bother trying any of his weasel-schemes on them.

Either that, or Sammy is just full of it.

I'm sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
