Les Paul - Standard vs Classic

    Hey Guys

What are your thoughts on the Les Paul Standard as opposed to the classic? Differences in sound, what's your preferences, etc....

Just interested to know as thinking of getting one, but not sure which I should go for...

    Cheers

    Dave

The modern Standard has two neck shapes (50's and 60's) plus 'burstbucker ' pickups which i think are better. The Classic has ceramic pickups which sound sterile to my ears and those ghastley yellowish fake aged inlays.

I own a Classic, a Les Paul Classic 1960 plus. But I also played standards and I think I'd even prefered the standard.
But I got the classic as a gift, so I won't complain!

Don't know what you mean with yellow inlays?
But it isn't ugly I would say:

Just remember, ultimately it all comes down to sound. Yes, a classic will sound good, but will a standard sound better? They are both Gibsons, they are both Les Pauls, but what kind of pickups are in them? I recently purchased a SG, chose the 61' reissue over the standard because it has the '57 humbuckers in it, big, big difference compared to what is in the standard SG. If you do the reasearch, most custom shop models, be it a Paul or Sg, have either 57's, or burstbuckers! That tells me, Gibson thinks these partic pickups are their best, or they would not be going into their custom shop guitars.....and they are. The feel, the look, that will/should be there with any of these guitars, but the sound is most important. Price obviously comes into play also, but they both are quality guitars.

My dad, and the other guitarist he plays with have LPs, my dad's is 60's plus and he swears by it. Nice looking guitar, but it just doesn't fit my hands, I prefer my strat, but tone wise..Wow.
