Only if by Double Trouble you mean the hell-scraping, mind-searing combo of Alex VH and Michael Anthony.

As good as Eddie is, there is no reason to be messin' around with Mr. Stevie Ray's band.

There is just something wrong with that....

Double trouble? Dude, those guys are strictly blues musicians. I doubt if they could branch out enough to match. I dig them totally, but I don't see it as a match of any sort. Besides, there are only two of them these days. I don't think Alex would give up his position...with his last name and all, heh heh, and I just can't see that bass player movin and shakin to somebody get me a doctor or bustin out the hey hey hey in ain't talkin bout love.

I dig the direction some new halen would take with the mix of influence, but don't see any way possible that dt could work in vh. SRV made those boys. The drummer is tight, but not terribly complex. The bass the same with some rich sound, but basically four bar blues.

uuuh Seenbad, I think u are missing his point....He's saying how cool would it be for Ed to make a blues album with Double Trouble. Great idea. I'm sure it'd sound tight, but i still think there is something inherently wrong with Eddie using SRV's band...

Having met and heard play numerous times in Austin... Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon can play far far more than blues!!!! Let's not forget SRV played a lot of Rock and Jazz in addition to the blues...

Go check out their 2001 release Double Trouble - Been A Long Time. Great material with Malfred Milligan (former Arc-Angels)on vocals, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Johnny Lang, Eric Johnson, Van Wilkes, Doyle Bramhall II, Dr. John, Lou Ann Barton, Susan Tedeschi, Charlie Sexton, Willie Nelson and Jimmie Vaughan!!

Great version of Zep's Rock and Roll!!! Groundhog Day starts out in the bowels of Delta blues and then plows it way into a rockin tune... Johnny Lang tears it up!!!
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...

Zahzoo, I'm so disappointed in you. Living in Austin, you of all people should know Malford Milligan was in Storyville with DT, not Arc Angels.
You're right though, Been a Long Time is pretty cool.

Double Trouble a strictly blues based band that can't stretch out into rock? LOL Come on, Stevie Ray Vaughn was a blues-based Rock guitarist. Songs like "crossfire", "voodoo chile", and "The House Is Rockin" sound pretty Rock to me.

I think the Double Trouble guys have been jamming live with Kenny Wayne Shepherd some, it least that's what I've been told, and heard it was great.

I think it would be cool to hear them jam together with Eddie, and hear Eddie rip some blues, as well as let the Double Trouble boys show exactly how much chops they got in the ol' trick bag. Any two guys that could hold the groove down for someone like SRV, can jam with anyone, that's a given.

The underlying grooves would be beyond cool, and in a perfect musical world, this could someday happen. I just want to hear Eddie jam with anyone, anywhere, anytime soon! Good post!

You've never heard these dudes live then, man. Like was said before it was blues, jazz, country, rock...all that shit combined. And they had to be able to hang with SRV.
I personally would think it would be blasphemy if EVH played with SRV's band. He doesn't have the soul Stevie Ray did (a quote that's guaranteed to stir up shit around here but was not the intent).
Just a personal observation....

Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...

I guess I don't see how you gathered more insight than me with the original post of about a half a sentance. He said "what do you think about the combo". You could take that anywhere.

Sorry, but I think they are pretty basic musicians. SRV was the complexity, these guys just held a beat and groove that allowed ample space to let SRV navigate around the blues (or jazz and blues based rock, mostly four bar). The complexity to go where edward likes to go, these guys just don't hold. Nothing wrong with that at all, they have their thing, but it doesn't jive with evh's thing.
