Passing through New Orleans “International” Airport this morning involved the usual grind: a 15-minute delay while the Department of Homeland Security kept America safe from my toothpaste, during which time I was held in a small pen with a 50-ish gentleman whose metal hip screws had set off the metal detector. Because one of the cardinal rules of being a New Yorker is to Never Acknowledge Celebrities, I coolly ignored the fact he was David Lee Roth, even though the first concert I ever saw was Van Halen at the Worcester Centrum in 1982.
