Default Release the 2001 songs on iTunes!

If DLR is coming back into the fold then why not release those 6 songs via iTunes and the other online services... heck release 1 every couple of weeks in a build up to the tour. If they're already recorded why not? DLR stated how great the songs were, MA said it was magic.

The album is a dead media form... CD's are a dying media. If I were a band, especially an established one, why go through all the effort to put a new album out when that's not where bands make money anymore.

It's been about 5 years since I went completely digital... and thank you to that record store for buying all my CD's back in 2001... you should have seen the guys face when I walked in with 400 discs! The only CD's I've bought since then were for my mom. It's 2006 and its about time the band embrace these legal download services.

Hagar talked about doing this, well his old bandmates should listen. I didn't buy best of both worlds, but I did grab the 3 new songs off that album from Yahoo Music. Fuck Ed has 10 albums worth of material? I'll give it a listen and grab the tracks I want and I'm sure tens of thousands of you would to. From my understanding they don't have a record deal right now, so what's holding them up?

I still like a collection of songs on an album, but I'll take new music from VH any way I can get it!
"Your right little girl. If women ruled the world there wouldn't be any more war; all the countries would just nag each other to death"
    Archie Bunker

"Any man who wouldn't cheat for a poke, don't want one bad enough"
Captain Augustus McCrae in "Lonesome Dove"

"He has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance." - The Declaration of Independence

If even just 250k people downloaded all 6 songs at .99 a piece, that is 1.5 million. Have no idea what Apple's cut would be, but you are also bypassing the record company. 1.5 million is better than zero in my book...I guess it would be split 4 ways so they might each end up with 250k a piece? Maybe they are all so loaded they don't give a rat's ass.

I have a feeling DLR and MA would do it in a heartbeat. We already know Sammy would and has.

Even with that they could also slap it in a box set later. They could add 3-4 instrumentals and put out a disc IN ADDITION to downloads. They could sell the damned disc THEMSELVES with the concert tix and get an easy platinum certification out of it.

All VH had to do in 2004 was do a couple more vocal songs, throw in some long assed instrumental jams and package it with the concert tix. Even adding only 5 bucks to the tix would beat the payday from the record company.

As others have said, selling immediate live CDs.........

I just shake my head at these guys sometimes.

I'm here to tell ya that they don't have dick from those sessions. This is just my prediction, though.

When has the "we have 47 albums worth of material" ever panned out? And, you want to believe DLR? He's more full of shit than anyone.

I just think those guys WAY overexaggerate when they're pimping themselves, mostly to ensure their ego stays inflated (proving they "still have it", when no other actions actually say so).

I'm sure they weren't even fully completed and mixed tunes. Probably just jams.

    1. Does it cost zero to produce the songs?
    2. I am pretty sure MA is out on the royalty thang...just a guess.
    3. Putting out shitty music(see 04) can damper the setlist and cause the casual fan to be like this sucks.

They should just give free downloads with a paid ticket. Its great fucking marketing. Everyone loves to feel like they are getting something for free. It works.

If the songs were recorded at 5150 by just the band members, no outside producer, then there aren't any additional costs besides electricity... Ed owns the studio. There probably are some fees that need to be paid to ASCAP and for a barcode but thats about it.

I forget what portion Apple takes off the top but I don't think it's like regular retail where they double the wholesale price.

It is a good idea to give away downloads with a concert ticket... Didn't Prince do something like that on his last tour? Or did he give away physical copies?

That is probably correct. Most of what I've seen/heard/read about the songs in the works was that they were demos and were left unfinished.

Exactly, you know they're never gonna see the light of day, they probably were never finished.

Did MA actually play on those new songs? Outside of a couple of tracks on III, he hasn't played bass on anything VH since 1996.

I was thinking about this idea at work today.

I think they should do it, it would be better than releasing an album nowadays.

As someone posted previously, I'm not buying that "we have hundreds of songs in the can" bullshit either. I would love to be wrong and see this stuff in a box set compilation someday, but otherwise, I'll believe it when I see it.

The original thread topic w/i-tunes sounds cool though. BUT it makes too much sense for VH to do it

According to Mike, no he didn't play on the those songs. I really have a hard time believing he has played anything since Carnal Knowledge.

He played on Balance (under Eddie's direction), "Humans Being," and the two DLR songs from Best Of. He played two or three tracks on III. That's it. I found it interesting he was so charged up for the '01 stuff with Dave, that's why I wondered if he was actually playing on it.
