As Van Halen Turns: The 10th Anniversary Of The Big Falling Out

Has it been ten years already since VH went through the most infamous year of their existence?? The year that saw them go through two lead singers in the space of a few months before settling on a dark horse candidate from a hair metal band?

Indeed it has. Man, how time flies.

It also began a decade in which Van Halen went into freefall - two public divorces from the first and second lead singers, the departure of the third singer, a failed reunion with Roth, the Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth tour and the brief 2004 reunion tour with Sammy, after which the band members disclosed that all was not well behind the scenes.

I think if you'd told me back then that all this would have happened in the future, I would have thought you were crazy. But truth is stranger than fiction. Or in this case, friction.

As infamous as the year was, however, at least there was a Van Halen in 1996. Granted, the singers changed every few months or so and the public feud played out like a soap opera (hence the title "As Van Halen Turns") but the band was still around.

Now it's ten years later and there is no Van Halen as of this writing.

The next ten years may or may not bring a Van Halen reunion of some sort, but even if it doesn't, we still have the classic albums and videos. Rumors are a dime a dozen, but the albums and videos are the real thing.
