    Default Ed's Cancer Treatment

There's been a lot of places mentioned as those where Eddie received treatment for his cancer, from the M.D. Anderson Cancer in Houston, Texas, to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to wherever that place was Eddie said on Stern he was doing something "not legal." Does anyone know for sure? Wikipedia is saying his primary treatment was done at the Mayo Clinic, which is only about two hours south of the Twin Cities (where I live). If Ed ventured up the the Cities occasionally and I ended up eating lunch one day across the room from him, I'm gonna be kicking myself.

Well... though Wikipedia could be right, it can also be very wrong. I'd just avoid that as a source for info.

I know he was in Houston for sure. I was living there at the time, and it made the newspaper. The article said that he was flying in weekly for treatment. I don't know how long that lasted, though.
I seem to remember him saying in the Stern Interview that the original doctors he saw didn't help him out, and I took that to mean the Houston folks.

At the time of the Stern interview, I tried researching every referance Ed made (the Dr., the town, the clinic, ect.) and came up with a big fat zero.

Now one possibility is that maybe he simply got the names of every single detail wrong.

Another is that I'm a total lummox at researching things, yet I'm not.

Hey Chef - I believe James found the correct facility:

    Mcclain Laboratories

45 Manor Rd, Smithtown, NY, United States

    Location Type: Single Location

I think the doctor's name is Stephen Mcclain.

From what Ed has said, it sounds like he had some form of stem-cell treatment - which I believe is illegal in the USA. Christopher Reeve was pushing for this as it has been proven to help people with varying forms of paralysis aswell. I think Israel allows this treatment, but the USA and UK have yet to.

I'm no doctor, just got interested in it and read up a little. Ed's comments lead me to believe that this may be the route he and his Doc friend have taken.

    Ed.

    Ed.
I wondered too if it was stem cell related when the whole "not legal" thing came up.

Michael J. Fox has been pushing for the same legality in research, and on Monday Rush Limbaugh accused him of faking the effects of his illness: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15408508/.

A friend worked at the airport at the time and said she saw him twice a week for a little over a month.

It could be stem cells but I personally think Ed is lying. IMO I think its kind of stupid to say where you got treatment and then say it was illegal, I mean thats just asking for the Fibbies to come knocking on the door and saying, "Hello Mr. Van Halen you are under arrest for participating in a illegal treatment."

But we do have to remember Ed was probably either drunk or stoned or both at the time.
