Default VH and the R&R Hall of Fame

I was watching VH1 Classic today and saw a thing with Eddie Trunk and some chick talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the bands that deserve to be there that aren't. He mentioned Rush, Kiss and Van Halen. While they were talking back and forth, he called the hall a joke and then mentioned Van Halen again and she said something about VH definitely getting in for 2007. Anybody else hear anything about this? Where is she, whoever the hell she was, getting her information?

I don't think it will happen. I'd like for it to, but I think VH has done way to much to tarnish their once greatness. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't know if it will happen, but there's no doubt it should. VH should go in with both DLR and Sam represented. EVH in particular inspired a generation of guitar players. His techniques changed the way the instrument was played. VH in general laid the foundation for the sucessful rock band in the 80's. Whether or not you like the big hair generation or not, you can't dispute that their was some kick ass rock and roll during the 80's. No generation produced more multi-platinum albums and sold out rock shows than the 80's and VH was the engine that drove the train.

I don't give a damn what happened in the last 10 years. To ignore the mighty Van Halen and it's contributions to rock and roll is a travesty. I dare say no one from the time VHI was released up until Nirvana broke through was any bigger, louder or better than Van Halen. And when all the 80's bands were left dead beside the road during "grunge", VH rocked right through the 90's, and would even be rocking today were in not for the internal bullshit.

Bottom line if VH isn't in the R&R HOF, no band that hit the seen between '78 & '88 should be. Period!

When I was younger and the RARHOF was created, I looked forward to the far off date when VH would be inducted. This goes back to about 1988 and even back then I was looking ahead to 2003, eagerly waiting. Over the years though, the Hall became more and more of a joke. Artists were inducted that just left you scratching your head. Percy Sledge? Richie Valens? Traffic? Blondie? Frankie Lymon? Solomon Burke? Brenda Lee?

It's a joke. Are these the peers we so badly want VH to stand beside and be recognized with? At this point the honor is meaningless to me. I would only like to see it out of curiousity for who would show up and who would play together.

there is no question they belong and have belonged for a while now. their may be one reason that people aren't thinking of, and i hate to say it, but Eddie's general behavior the last few years could possibly make they're appearance for the presentation questionable to many of the RRHF heirarchy. not only the Sam/Dave problem, but it wouldn't look too good to see him in the shape he was in for the 04' tour or any of his recent little ventures, at the ceremony. both in his behavior and his playing, he has sadly become a big liability. i could be wrong and hope i am, but this may be a large part of the problem. lets face it, he makes or breaks the band, and rightfully so.

I honestly don't know why they've not been inducted. If part of the criteria is that you can't have personal problems or that the band has to still be recording and playing, then more than half of the bands that are in wouldn't be. My guess is that eventually, they'll be inducted. Why it's not happened yet is a mystery to me.

    Default 2007 is the year

Haven't posted for awhile. I know someone very close (family) to the chair of the election committee (sounds like a bs rumor after that statement but its not). 2007 is the year for VH if everyone behaves. The main reason for the wait has been that all sides have to appear and the tide seems to be changing. I'll explain the relation more after the nominee announcement, either way.

As for the reasons why they haven't been inducted- its 2 things only- what I said previously and political.

Honestly, not sure, his connection came up in conversation, so I just busted his chops on VH and that was his response.

should be. i think they're late this year, i'm finding old news articles that have the nominees announced in September, with the inductees announced in December. the induction ceremony is always in March.
