VH & The FBI
I wonder why Warner Brothers sent an 8-track copy of Van Halen II to the FBI back in 1978 along with those other recordings.

FBI needed to some kick ass music to pump them up before they went out to kick ass.

There was a thread about this two or three years ago, I don't remember what they were looking for, it was part of a long list of WB artists. Carter was President so it wasn't a right-wing thing.
It just kills me that the FBI still had 8-tracks in 1979. Loosers."Nothing is ever what it seems but everything is exactly what it is." - B. Banzai

Was this something that the record companys regularly did back then to save them the trouble of going to concerts to write down lyrics?

From the internet:
Many other musicians have files, including the Beach Boys, and a group listed in the FBI's alphabetized list as "Halen, Van." Van Halen apparently attracted the FBI's notice when someone at Warner Brothers Records (name blacked out) sent the bureau's Technical Services Division its new releases in March, 1978, and April, 1979, with a note: "Enclosed please find two 8-track tapes of each of our latest top recordings..."
It's hard to see anything subversive or radical about VH1 or VH2, "Runnin' With the Devil" ain't about running with the devil, "On Fire" isn't about burning anything down, "D.O.A" was about the most serious song they'd written by that time. The key is that someone at WB sent the tapes along. I wonder what that was about?"Nothing is ever what it seems but everything is exactly what it is." - B. Banzai

It's possible, it's on a list with a bunch of other artists. The FBI probably arrested a bunch of low-level mafia or KKK guys who were wearing Van Halen t-shirts and thought "WTF?".
With all of the linkers from New Jersey on the board it's possible some of the low-level 'Made" guys had Van Halen in their cars and at their homes."Nothing is ever what it seems but everything is exactly what it is." - B. Banzai

so yeah i was thinking about this and then i remebered a show on the History channel about the FBI spying on John Lennon. we also need to remember that there were still the "anti-American" hearings going on at this time.
But That guy up top could also be right maybe the fibbies needed to listen to some Van Halen to get them psyched up before they broke down doors.Captus vester magus occasio!!

Well maybe if the IRS would give them back their Willie Nelson albums they wouldn't need them.
