    Default I Just Met Sting!

I work in the same building as Sirius, in NYC, and practically walked right into him in the lobby. Got to shake his hand.

Yeah, is he a known prick or something? I almost walked into him because I wansn't wathcing where I was going. Then I look up and he's right in front of me. So i just said "hi" and told him I'm a fan. He shook my hand and said "thank you". It was cool because - like most musicians - the Police are one of my all-time favorite bands.

Working here is surreal because I see celebs all the time, usually on my lunch-hour. Lenny Karvitz was cool too. If anyone wants to hear the story....

What you didn't ask about any inside info about Dave secretly working with EVH? Shocker !

Kidding, great for you - I love Sting's solo stuff, so I'm kinda a lil bit jealous.

I just picked up Andy Summers' new book "One Train Later". It's a pain in the ass to read, due to the exaggerated prose style that Summers affects.

Think I'll simply skip ahead to the pages regarding "The Police".

Good for you upon meeting Sting. At least you were not stuck in an elevator, singing "Message In A Bottle" or "Roxanne" to the guy.

Hey, maybe Sting will be VH's new bass player. He plays bass, he sings.

I remember the days when Mikey, "USED" to do that for VH, but Ed's gotta be turd about Mike. Hmmmmmm

    Default Lenny Kravitz....

We have a few different elevator banks, that service different floors and they all have security turnstiles that you have to pass through to get into the lobby. Courtesy of our Al Queda friends, we also have bomb-sniffing dogs roaming the lobby most of the time.

So right around Thanksgiving two years ago I was coming out of the elevator and I see this guy sitting on the floor, in front of the turnstiles, scratching one of the security dogs belly's and talking to the dog, "you're such a sweet girl", etc. He also happened to be blocking me from getting into the lobby.

I was about to say, "excuse me" and he realized that somone was trying to get through and turned his head to look at me, and I realized it was Lenny. I was stunned! All I could get out was, "You're....." and he finished the sentence, "Lenny Kravitz, help me up?"

So he put his hand out and I helped him up and then proceeded to tell him that i was a big fan and that I'm in a cover-band and we do "Always On the Run". I think this kind of confused him because I have to wear a suit at work, so I wasn't dressed like someone who is in a band. When I realized that he was tring to figure that out, I said, "this is my day job".

He just smiled and said, "cool". Then he said, "well, nice meeting you and good luck with the band". And, still reeling, I think I got off something like, "Yeah, you too".

That was the coolest so far. I've seen everyone on the Stern show but Robin. Even smoked a cigarette with Artie once (that was cool). Also seen Dennis Miller, Zak Wylde, Arnold Schwarzenagger, a bunch of guys from the Sopranos, Rob Zombie, Adam Corolla, Jim Breuer, Carmine Appice and a bunch of others I'm forgetting.

Somebody made me a poster that's up in my office with pictures of everybody I've seen and we add to it regularly. It's totally surreal because you're on your way to lunch, the bank, etc., and then you're face to face with Sting!

No. But it would've been funny if the muzak versions were playing in the elevator

Copeland's new documentary, "Everyone Stares", is really good. He shot it himself and it spans their entire career. It's only about $13 on DVD. Plus, the commentary is him and Summers, basically drunk and discussing what you're seeing on the screen. Kind of like Mystery Science Theater 3000 (2000?).

There's one really funny comment where Sting is carring his own luggage and bass into this lousy motel room, waaaaaaaaayyyyy back in the day, and one of them says, "you'll never see that again".

    Definitely worth watching.

Governor Arnold. That was wild! There were all of these Escalades lined up outside the building and then security guys just poured out of them, surrounded Arnold and wisked him into a private elevator. It was actually kind of scary - post 911 - until we realized what was going on.

To borrow a line from Roadhouse - the greatest worst movie ever made - "I thought he'd be taller?"

Lol, agents Smiths everywhere. I'd still piss my pants off - Arnold now holds the top position of my all-time heros, since EVH is kinda..meh now

    Dude, I envy you

Was he like he was in the elevator on SNL? You didn't sing any Police songs for him?

btw - I love Sting's music but don't tell anyone.
