    Default MICHAEL ANTHONY ON BASS

One interesting thing I've noticed is Mike hasn't really commented a whole lot or at all regarding not playing bass on VHIII or possibly earlier albums, wonder what his thoughts are on this and his thoughts on possibly being replaced earlier on around the Fair Warning Album.

I'm pretty sure he's not too happy with it. I heard rumors that he was pretty pissed that they cut out his bass solo on the III tour even though he sang SGMAD he was a little pissed. I know Mike Jammed with Billy Sheehan a few years ago at NAMM so I don't think there are any hard feelings between the 2. Sam said Mike didn't want Ray Daniels to manage the band either but he went along with the brothers.

I think he's above that. It's just going to cause more friction.

I'm sure Mike is thinking "I handle all of the bass parts well in VH, what is Ed thinking?". We all know Ed doesn't want Mike playing like Billy.

Would you want to admit that you had anything to do with VH III?

I enjoy michael anythony, but his bass solo needs to go anyways. If the bro's ever tour again, I could do without Al's solo. Who really wants to see a drum solo except a drummer?

I agree and wil go one further. I could do witout Ed's solo either, especially if he's just gonna wank off with his sustainer! I'd rather they use that time to play more tunes.

Some random shtick on a guitar which makes EVH's playing blow.

I'd have to agree... Ed's added little new to his solo over the years and it was boring in 2004.
If he would just cut loose and let it flow, then it would be fun to hear and watch.

Is a sustainer a guitar tool or just bad form?

A sustainer is an effect, usually a foot pedal. Eddie liked it so much he had one built into his guitar.

Hmm...I never understood the need of a bass solo. Do you know a band that does a bass solo almost EVERY show? Since the late 90s, even a drum solo is not really necessary... but my problem is: I've never seen Van Halen live... I would even enjoy if Mike farts in a mic and the band spents their laughter through the video screen, so give him a handfull of bass effects and HE gives ME a BASS solo !

The times I've seen them in concert Mike's bass solo was more of just making sounds then actual playing it could probably go. They(meaning Ed, Alex and Mike) should do more jams rather than solos because I agree they are getting old and stale.
