Default Two ways to create killer tone w/ your guitar effect Pedals! EVH tone anyone?

Hey, thought I would pass this along to everybody. This guy is leaving his personalized stamp on the "guitar tone" world.
He has recently been working with known guitarists (no details of who) to work on their effects set-ups / gear.
    Great idea!

If you're good with a soldering iron, you can do these kinds of mods yourself and save some money. Google for the schematic of your pedal and then google around for the "distortion cookbook" (I think that's what its called) and you'll get some ideas on how to mod the circuit. Its not easy, necessarily, but it can be done. Better to educate yourself with what's out there for free before buying the DIY kit or having someone else do the mod. The $40 boss distortion pedal (DS-1?) is a great pedal to start on. Upgrade the op-amps, toss in a few different clipping diodes, and change the tone caps and you're cookin'. Either that, or research what the people over at www.AX84.com or www.18Watt.com are doing cooking up home-brew tube amps (for even more brown sound fun).

    Hey HipCat5,
I appreciate your input...definately sounds like a good alternative. It's just that I don't have much extra time (wife, kids ect.) for trial and error. I'm not one with alot of patience unfortunately. A step by step guide from a professional to scale down trial time possibly sounds like an easier route for me. I will check out your suggestions though. Thanks again for your time!
