Default Dave of old versus Dave of today...

I was just watching the videos for "California Girls" and "Just a Gigolo" and something hit me. Dave HAS changed. Obviously, people are expected to change over a 21 year period, but many people here don't think he hasn't. Just watching these videos made me think how I miss the old David Lee Roth persona. You know, the goofy guy with a GOOD sense of humor and just a more charming demeanor. Now, when I think of Dave, I think of this serious guy with a lot of old jokes to play it off like he's still a fun guy. Maybe we just know him better now than we did then, but he seems to have drastically matured and lost that fun element. It just seems forced now. Even on stage, Dave has went from once being the party to being an authorative band leader. Anyone else realize this?

I really agree with you, I've actually been think about that over the last couple of days. He cut his hair became more serious and, from what I've seen and heard in interviews, a little less full of himself. And I think, because of his change of attitude, that if Ed did get back together with Dave some form of Van Halen could return, with or without Mike.

    Just my opinion

Geez, I guess. If the guy did stay the same, you'd wonder what was wrong with him, like some sort of Peter Pan syndrome never wanting to grow up. I like the new Dave a bit better I think. To me, he's trying less, more kicked back. Well, as kicked back as Dave can be. Of course, old people have to stick together, LOL.

See, what I think is that he IS very different yet tries to be the Dave of old. So, he is more mature now, yet he tries (badly) to deny that maturity while in the public eye. It's not like I expect him to be the same guy after all these years, but I think any bit of fun in him now is staged. And the ability to really have fun should be with you forever. It's ageless. Dave just seemed to be having a genuinely good time back in the day. I don't see that now. I see an actor.

Youth rules, sad, but true. We all get older and try to be some of our former selves. I sure don't hold that against him. I DO wish, however, he would just tame down a bit with the old jokes and go on tour with =VH= and just really focus on the songs. I know that sounds contradictory, but there comes a time to shut the fuck up and rock. The time has come.

I wonder if I have false belief that Edward and Dave are as talented as I believe they are or if they have indeed ran out of ideas. They are, I believe, very talented individuals that have wasted so much time. Too bad really for us fans.
