11/21/01, Philadephia, PA: 13,000 fans Danced The Night Away while The Atomic Punk Himself, David Lee Roth, proved that he is One and Only True Frontman Of Van Halen!
What a Night, What a Night!!! Truly an outstanding and amazing night of Rock N Roll delivered to old fans and some brand new ones in true DLR style and conviction. I pulled into the Veterans Stadium Parking Lot at about 6pm, and immediately I noticed Takin' Whiskey's Helium Balloon floating above pointing out the meeting area of our Tailgate for the DLR concert.

I arrived with a lovely lady friend of mine, and we greeted Takin' Whiskey, MikeVH, Lou, and Albert from the DLRArmy. We had a blast hanging in the lot drinking beers, eating, laughing, cranking the DLRBand album, and doing some Jack! My old lead singer Steve showed up afterwards with his gal, and we hung in the parking lot for at least 2 hours, the cold did not matter to these Die Hard Dave fans. After downing many beers and cranking up Fair Warning we(Lou, my friend and I) decided to head over to the Spectrum at about 8:15pm. After getting my tickets from Will Call(total validation for the night to come), we knew that our destiny of enjoying the Music of the Roth era of VH would soon be within our grasp. MAN WAS I PUMPED FOR THIS!!!!!!!!

Our goal was to aleviate our bladders of many beers consumed in the lot, and head towards the General Admission. Although we knew we would have to endure Fuel, the sooner we got on the floor and worked our way towards the stage, the closer we would get to the front of the stage, and closer to Toastmaster himself, Diamond Dave!!!!!! So after buying another beer on the floor and scoping out the scene, we head into the General Admission crowd. Fuel began within a few minutes, and well they tried, and they were loud, but to me they were kinda boring. Their songs lack color and creativity, the singer has the Rock Star ability and potential, but Fuel is just a medicore band, in a mediocre climate of new music, IMO.

OK, Fuel are done, and we are moving in towards the stage....people are getting pumped, and I chatted with a few young hot ladies in the crowd looking to participate in the celebration of the Diamond one himself!!! My female friend worked her way up, and Lou and I followed, some guy tried to be tough with me, and I looked at Lou and laughed, like the portly middle aged guy was gonna do anything, yeah right!!!! DOH!!!!!!!

OK, so we are now myabe 8 or 9 rows of people from the stage, then My female friend for the evening and I got in closer but Lou remained a few rows back. I kept looking back at Lou and shouted, "HEY LOU, ARE YOU READY MAN!!!!!!"....he would smile and nod, kinda funny!!!
The Lights go down, Ray is out there, then James and Bart, they break into "Hot For Teacher", and the crowd goes nuts, singing and dancing, at least I was!!!! The band was so TIGHT!!!!!! Ray Luzier is an amazing skins man, Bart Walsh did what he was supposed to do, and kicked ass on guitar. I mean call him an Eddie clone, but guess what, he can actually pull off Eddie, his tone and style too, very well(It's his job, it's what Dave pays him to do, play those VH songs to the best of his ability), and James Lomezo was ROCK solid on the Bass. Ray and James' backing vocals sounded great too, the whole band was really into the night, smiling the entire time, I mean THESE GUYS WERE HAVING A GREAT TIME!!!!!

Now Dave COMMANDED the stage, he was every bit the performer, showman, comedian, entertainer, singer, and prefoessional I hoped he would be, and MORE!!!! Dave sounded GREAT!!!!! His voice was great, and I could not believe this guy was 47, I mean I couldn't believe it. The man is in incredible physical condition, he did the scissor kick off the riser twice, kicks in the air whenever, and some really kool Kung Fu work. His mic stand routine during Jump was amazing, especially only 15 feet away from me!!!!!!!I had the TIME OF MY LIFE, I was singin' and dancing, pumping my fist in the air, reaching towards the stage, pointing and shouting to Dave(I even called Dave's name out when there was a quiet moment, I know he heard me). There was this really cute girl next to me who danced with me and sang along with me, my friend she made it up to the second row against the barrier!!!The last time I saw Dave was on Eat Em And Smile, and he sounded even better, hell the band and Dave sounded better than VH did on the 1984 tour....To me, this was closest thing that came to a VAN HALEN show since the 1984 tour(I TRULY HOPE THAT ED, ALEX AND MIKE WORK WITH DAVE!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!)Dave did the screams, not all of the time, but he did them, and held the notes long and strong. Of course I had to sing along with Dave the whole time!!! LOL!!!!

So many great songs, all of the songs listed in the other reviews, Everybody Wants Some, So This Is Love, Little Dreamer, Mean Streets, Little Guitars, Yankee Rose, Jump, etc etc....WOW!!! WOW!!! I was ecstatic the entire time, jumping in the air, and feeling like I was 16!!!!but I have a youthful outlook on life anyway, so it isn't that hard...LOL.....

Let me tell you, the hunnies were loving Dave too, I saw girls yelling for Dave to pull his black body suit lower to ummm errr expose himself, the man still has it....Oh and people, that really is Jack Daniels, I tasted it!!!Damn Good Too....I also turned around a few times during the show to get a look at the crowd, and it looked like everyone was up on their feet the whole time totally getting off, dancing and singing to the Spectacular Show that was before them!!!!!!!!! It was very kool when Dave held his mic out to the entire audience that sang along with Running With the Devil for the second half of the first verse, and the entire second verse!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is, when Van Halen reunite for the first tour since the 1984 tour, the world will get thier asses kicked!!!!

the correct set list and order...

    Hot For teacher
    Panama
    Beautiful Girls
    Little Guitars
    Dance the Night Away
    Mean Street
    Runnin With the Devil
    Coniption (guitar solo)
    You Really Got Me
    So This Is Love
    Pretty Woman
    Little Dreamer
    Atomic Punk
    Ice Cream Man
    Everybody Wants Some
    Yankee Rose
    Tobacco Road
    Ain't Talkin Bout Love
    Jump

BTW, on the way back from Philly today Pierre Robert said there were 13,000 people at the show, maybe a few left when Dave went on, but also alot showed up when Dave went on......I don't know what that other guy SIMPLERYHME is smoking becasue the VAST MAJORITY of the people there were to see Dave, most people were sttting down during Fuel(I mean yeah, there were people diggin them too), and the lead singer COMPLAINED for everyone to stand up and which no one did(because no one sits down during a Fuel show)(hell he even asked the audience to light their lighters for one of their songs, gay move), but during Dave's set the whole place was on their feet DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY TO THE SWEET SOUNDS OF VH!!!!

    Van Halen needs Dave!!!!

Dave, you are Rock N Roll, don't change a thing!!!

    Eddie, Call Dave NOW!!!

    Peace!!!!!

Definitely agree....i was 3 rows back and I could count Daves nose hairs i was that close. Only thing that pisses me off was the fact that there are always a few knuckleheads who get there late, drunk and think they are gonna get right up front. This asshole next to me kept pushing and shoving and during FUEL, he was giving them the finger. FInally someone threw a beer at him and of course I took the most of it cause they missed. But during Dave, he kept using me to hop up and down like and idiot.. I was like this isn't a fuckin mosh pit or slam dance band...THIS IS VH mutherfucker!! Calm the fuck down and enjoy it!!!!!! Finally, he grabbed my neck to gain leverage to jump up and down and i pushed him off and told him he better fuckin watch it. Left me alone then so I enjoyed the rest of the set..asshole free. I am 31 and these pipsqueeks who can't appreciate good music just piss me off. Anyways....IT ROCKED!!!!
Well ain't life grand when you finally hit it, I'm always a sucker for a real good time, woke up in life to find i almost missed it,aint I glad that love is blind
