OK, why do so many people keep claiming THAT'S WHY I LOVE YA is a good song that shouldn't have been left off of VH3? I personally think it's horrible...it's an atrocious song with a bad sound and horrible vocals; it has a complete lack of melody. I completely hate it and would possibly even rather listen to HOW MANY SAY I!!!
So, is it a YES or NO on "THAT'S WHY I LOVE YA", meaning, should it have been on VH3 or not?"I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

And by the way Rikk ... damn! I've never heard that negative of an opinion on the song before. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. I know, Wolfie. It's weird how people's music tastes are so different. Oh well. I just really don't like the song at all. It's like SEVENTH SEAL in that there's another song that other people keep commending and I just absolutely don't like. I guess the only difference is that I could still sit through SEVENTH SEAL while THAT'S WHY I LOVE YA is just completely bad to me.

Yes. Although it doesn't sound like anything else on VH3, it's still a good song.

I think it is a very good song. Eds guitar work is good. Nice solo and rhythm guitar. Very Pop and radio oriented. IMHO, it could have been 'the' single if it were included on VH3.

My vote is 'yes' on this one. The sound quality isn't the best because it really was only a demo. Anyway, it's a nice pop-rock song that really should have been on the album instead of 'How Many Say I'.

I personally think it's a great track. If the thing had been a little more polished it would have been on VH3.

Achievements:
I think it should have been on VH 3, although I'm under no illusions that it would have meant a thing as far as the success or failure of the album.

Which leads me to wonder, what exactly is a 'test pressing'? I thought that meant that it was given to WB as a finished product, which would mean that TWILY as we hear it was a finished recording.

Absolutely, Glenn. It is from initial test-pressings, which means it was considered a finished product. To me, it sounds no more like a demo than several other songs off of VH3. In fact, to be honest, one of the things I don't like about VH3 is it sounds TOO MUCH like a demo. A lot of the songs sound like unfinished ideas, or at least are recorded as if they were first-time demos. A few of the songs have admittedly good production...as much as I'm not a huge fan of ONCE, it is produced very well. Same with DIRTY WATER DOG, which I actually like. It's very well-produced. But other cuts from the sessions, like TWILY and even WITHOUT YOU, sound like demos that needed some polishing.
One more thing: the reason the record was held back was not really BECAUSE of TWILY. According to the band, they actually were suddenly told by WB that the album wasn't going to be released until February, so they ended up using the extra time to record JOSEPHINA and ended up cutting TWILY, mainly because the band wasn't completely happy with it. Too bad they didn't cut HOW MANY SAY I as well. They could have also used the time to remix a few songs.

I too always wondered why the band pulled this song off of VH III. It's by far one of the best songs they did with Cherone, although I would prefer that era never existed. There is so much crap on VH III that it is really amazing that this song wasn't included. It was definitely "the single" that could have atleast allowed Van Halen to maintain their platinum album status. It could have easily replaced, and should have replaced, either Ballot Or The Bullet or How Many Say I. Those two songs are absolutely horrible in my opinion. I thought Ed was sober, but if he really was how could he attach his name to VH III? It was probably the same people who told him to pull TWILY who told him the rest of the album was kick ass. Kinda sad huh...
Always one more,
You're never satisfied.
Never one for all with you,
It's only one for me

Probably the most pathetic thing he ever declared was something to the effect that this was his first really good album. He declared, "This album shouldn't have been called Van Halen III. I wanted to call it Van Halen I."
