as soon as I'm told my local gamestop is taking preorders I'm on my way there. i intend to have one on launch day. I'm greatly looking forward to it. it's been a tough wait cause my gamecube (which I got on launch day in 2001) stopped working....or started working very poorly earlier this year so I traded it in. And I haven't had much to play since and I still have GC games I was in the middle of playing at the time. So I'm looking forward to new games (Twilight Princess) and also finishing my old games.

The Wii looks like the next big thing. The wireless interface could get people off of the couch.

In fact, if someone wanted to make a little money, they would design dumbells that you could attach to the controllers so you could get buffed out.

I hang out on the G4 TV message boards and everyone there has a boner in anticipation. The fact that so many game companies have jumped on board is also a great sign.

God I am going to sound like a geek. Nintendo is done. Their last two consoles were failures. They were number 1, 15 years ago and now are a distant third amongst console's. I do agree that their handheld units do well but give it time and both Sony and Microsoft will be ahead of them.

The problem with Nintendo is that they still think that gamers are 8-14 years old. That was the case in the late 80's and early 90's however now those gamers are 20-40 years old. They don't want to play a golf game with a cartoon character. They don't want an RPG with some gay looking elf. They want mature games. They also want to play on line. Sony blasted Microsoft for their multiplayer ventures with XBOX live however with the PS3, they are going to emulate the format.

I do agree that the Wii is going to revolutionize the control aspects of games but if the controller does not make the game. The design of the game does.

I agree completely. I'm sure they will sell a large amount of units with the initial run, but after the buzz is gone the numbers will drop significantly.

Nintendo appears to cater to kiddies while their competitors seem to have a wider demographic.

Long as the quality of those "kiddie" games continues to stand head-and-shoulders above the generic third party crap Sony pumps out, Nintendo will be just fine.

okay lets discet and destroy this post.
1.) Nintendo doesn't think gamers are 8-14. they simply make games that appeal to evveryone. And because of that they have been deemed kiddy. Get over it.

2.)The N64 and Gamecube were only failures in the lack of third party support. Both consoles have sold well over the 25 million mark. The dreamcast (my favorite system) died after only selling 5 million units in 2 1/2 years. the DC only managed to sell 10 million worldwide after its priced dropped to $50 in its final hour. (a little history for ya)

3.)You'd be suprised how many of these 20-40 guys/gals will buy a game with a gay looking elf or a cartoony golf game. Why because they are fun as hell.

4.) the controller does make the game. You think its possible to play street fighter on the Wii? Or even the gamecube? You have to make a game that will revolve around the controller.

how absurd ...most of this is. You may not realize this but that "gay looking elf" is part the most universally praised franchise to this day. And even the so called "hardcores" can admit the brilliance of that franchise. Most of them are ranked up with the best of all time and most would agree that Ocarina of Time is arguably the best ever. so That just makes you ignorant. Cartoon graphics doesn't mean "kiddy". And then look at a franchise like Metroid. I'd be interested why you say that one is for kids. One of the very best games for Gamecube was Resident Evil 4. It was exclusively to gamecube for almost a year and it is superior in quality to the later PS2 version. The Mario franchise is still popular to this date. Because of the gameplay. It's always had superior and many times innovative gameplay and most of them are also ranked up near the best of all time. Also on a world wide basis the gamecube was neck and neck with the xbox. So you could barely say the xbox was more successful. especially when you consider that Nintendo, I'm sure, made A LOT more money from it.

also...you SAY that N64 was a failure.....but for some reason everyone I knew back then had one. Everyone had played Mario 64...Mario Kart....Goldeneye....Ocarina. These are all among the most popular game of that generation. So I guess you're just looking at stats right now and saying....hmm...PSX sold a lot more...I guess N64 was a failure. But if you actually remember being around at the time you couldn't possibly say it failed. Plus if you're going to use this logic than I guess xbox was a failure too this generation because it doesn't even come close to touching the sales of the PS2. Do you feel that xbox was a failure?

the xbox and 360 are a failure in japan. the first hasn't even come close to 1 mil units sold. 360 hasn't even sold 100k units. however its the strong sales in the US, Europe and other asian coun tries that have kept MS alive in the gaming biz.
