2006 BIRTHDAY BASH NEWS
September 28, 2006
BIRTHDAY BASH - WABOTHON*
*OK* Redheads!
It's that time of year when we all take off our shoes and get our feet
in the sand...Yep, it's just a few days away! This year we will have shows
on the 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th & 13th!! As you all know it keeps getting
harder and harder to accomodate all of you in the club, so I have been thinking really hard on this one....and here is my solution!!!
Shows will be on the 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th and on the 13th, I have
decided....are you sitting down for this one.....I will be doing the
WABOTHON!!!! A noon to midnight *ULTIMATE B-Day PARTY!!!....*I'm
thinking five separate shows...*ARE WE HAVIN ANY FUN YET*!!.....
Here is how it will work..
Wristbands will be handed out as usual for all shows on a first come
first serve basis! BUT on the 13th, you will have a choice of which show you
will attend until all shows are sold out! *ALL* details on show times will
be posted at the club and as always we will have a limited number of
dinner show tickets available(well, on the 13th it will be breakfast, lunch,
dinner, midnight snack.....you get my drift!.... And as usual all shows
are free on a first come first serve basis!!
Yippie--MAS TEQUILA!!!"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."
"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

It's nice that he does this every year for his fans and I know people travel some insane distances around the world to attend, but man I wish he'd just get onto a world tour once in a while, we had one brief gig here in the UK (which was badly advertised so I missed it, f/k!) in what a decade or more?

I'm going to Cabo in two weeks. I'll miss the Birthday shows, but hell, it's still Cabo. Maybe I'll get lucky and Sam will show up?

They did seem to go across the pond much more frequently with Dave.
Does anybody agree with me here? I've always wondered why VH with Hagar wasn't a world-wide headline touring act. I know they hit Japan and I think Australia and then opened some fesitval dates in Europe for Bon Jovi on the Balance tour. But they by no means set out on a mission to conquer the world. Seems shortsighted to me. Maybe they didn't care, but long term I think Bon Jovi's willingness to tour the world when they were hot basically pulled them through the 1990's grunge phase.
I never heard squat (or very little) about Bon Jovi during the 90's, but I remember seeing a dvd of them overseas selling out Wembley Stadium in like 1995. I know BJ toured like hell during the 80's across the world, and I'm guessing it was a place for them to exploit when they were on the outs in the USA.
It seems to me Van Halen squandered this same opportunity (of course this would assume they'd have not split in 1996, but still they couldn't have known that in the 1980's).Last edited by belikemike; 10.10.06 at 12:42 AM.

Van Halen has only toured Australia once & that was with Gary Cherone.
Sammy toured here for the first time as a solo act about a month after the VH shows. It is also the only time Sammy toured Australia.Last edited by Ian Sane; 10.10.06 at 05:12 AM.
And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both thats intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion. - David Lee Roth

Updated B'day Bash news from redrocker.com:
http://www.redrocker.com/index.php?s=news_detail&id=116
And, someone from the SHML posted this:
Redhead Report 10/6/06
The bash is officially off and running. Sammy and the Wabos played a
killer set that was selected by the band members. After each song Sammy went to each band member and let them pick the set. Sammy created a set list that was eight feet long, including all the songs he and the band know, so he promised to play them all before the bash is over Here is the set list from Friday.
Right on Right

High and Dry
One Way To Rock
The Way We Live

Red head Report 10/7/06
Day two did not disappoint, with all the new additions to the club
including a new building, expanded wabotique, new menu at the Wabo Snack and additional sound, lighting and decor the Wabos built a new set list of there own. Sticking with his promise to tackle the eight foot set list, Sammy and the band selected their favorites and came up with another winner. Highlights included a killer dueling drum jam during Red between David Lauser and John Douglas. Here is the set list from Saturday (Rumor has it Vinnie
Paul, Michael Anthony and others are on the way!)

Hey belikemike, yeah I know where you're coming from, but at the same time I remember reading/seeing/hearing interviews over here from the 80's where he'd be raving about how intense the smaller venues were here and how packed out they'd be. He is at the end of the day an international artist, it's not like his stuff is only being sold in the US - unless you count the tequila that is, I've had 1 bottle in my life and only because a friend took a holiday to the US and brought me one back, thank God he grabbed the Anejo!!
