This is a pretty big magazine, around 200 pages. Wouldnt want some of you first time GW buyers to skip a bunch of shit and just jump to the VH feature cuz there is VH stuff all over this issue!

Check it out-

Page 21 - "Contents". This page has 2 killer pics of Eddie from what I believe are the recording sessions for their second album from very late 1978. Notice Eddie twiddling with the infamous "bomb" that housed his echoplex I believe. Also notice the schlitz malt liquor tall beer cans on the floor as well as on top of the amp cabinets.

Page 28 - "The Woodshed". This page has GW Editor-in-Chief Brad Tolinski talking about Dime, Zakk and Eddie Van Halen. He mentions GW is ready to give Eddie a cover/feature the moment Eddie is ready to talk about what has gone down in his life(most importantly the present AND future).

Pages 58 thru 68- All dedicated to the history of Van Halen! Talks about how VH changed the face of rock music and guitar playing forever.
Stories from their junior high days, high school days and club days from dudes who hung out with the band and grew up with the band. Also many tales from the clubs days by Gene Simmons, Mick Mars, the late Bill Gazzari, legendary local radio dj Rodney Bingenheimer, Eddie's lifelong bud and first guitar tech Rudy Leiren and many other dudes! With plenty of stories and info from the band members themselves as well of course.
Also contains a legendary quote from the late genius Frank Zappa concerning Eddie.
Conatins a chronological album by album breakdown of VH's entire catalog as well, including the number of sales of each album in the U.S.
Many cool never before seen pics as well!! Almost every darn page has pics!! This VH feature story is then continued on Page 164 and finally ends on the Page 166.

Page 71 - The results of the Annual Reader's Poll.
Eddie Van Halen voted into Guitar World Hall of Fame by the GW readers. And there is yet another cool pic of Eddie on this page!
Zakk Wylde won "MVP" and Dimebag won "BEST METAL GUITARIST", respectively.

-The fold out poster in the middle of the magazine has Zakk and Dime on one side and a cool live classic concert shot of Eddie Van Halen wailing on the other! The pic looks to be from the very early days too, maybe the first or second tour. By the way the majority of the pics I believe are from the legendary Neil Zlozower.-

Now you guitar players listen up cuz it dont end there.

Pages 120 thru 125 - These are 5 straight pages containing the most detailed guitar tab and lesson ever of Eddie's Masterpiece "ERUPTION".
A section by section breakdown that covers everything from the gear he used to the techniques he applied. This has it all.

Page 128- "Performance & Analysis". This contains the breakdown for 2 classic VH tunes "And The Cradle Will Rock" and "Beautiful Girls.
This gives a quick look at each song and emphazises Eddie's RHYTHM playing is as vitale and amazing as his hot leads.

Page 136 - Guitar tab for "And the Cradle Will Rock".

Page 142 - Guitar tab for "Beautiful Girls".

And please remember-
Pages 72 thru 84 - All dedicated to resident ass kickers Zakk Wylde and Dimebag Darrell! They talk about their plans, their thoughts on the current state of music and guitar playing and their thoughts on Eddie Van Halen. Both players even give a few quick guitar lessons as well.
During the interview and lessons they both constantly name Eddie Van Halen as a major influence/inspiration.
Going as far as to say neither one of them would be here if it wasnt for Van Halen! Very cool.

Also look for Peavey ads with Eddie and ads of Steve Vai, Zakk, Dime and many others..

Enjoy.

Cool, can't wait to have it on my hands.
It won't be until February, yes it takes a little while to arrive to Mexico.

Sounds awesome, thanks. Hopefully stores will have it tomorrow. I looked all over this week but no place had it yet.

i didnt read the other thread dealing with this mag so i dont know if this is addressed in there ...

but i went to the GW website and saw the cover of this march issue and all i have to say is "How the hell does GW dedicate all this space to VH in their issue and not put Ed on the cover?" i know he's been on the cover a million times but if ever there was a time for him to be on the cover wouldn't it be the 25th anniversary???

kinda lame if u ask me, which u didn't so that's all i'm gonna say 'bout that...

I WANT THIS MAG
EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it. <br />So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

Geez Dan, if y'all thought us folk in Hawaii was isolated from the U.S. mainland, imagine what it's like in Oregon. I picked this issue up at Tower Records this past Thursday! LOL! Just kidding Dan....but yes, nothing really new to say in this mag, but great quotes and stories from people associated with the band.

The impression I got from the stories of the early club days were that the boys were very driven to suceed and kept at it until they finally got their big break. Can't recall seeing so many VH pics in one mag since the old Creem magazines from the early 80s.

I picked it up yesterday. It is very good. It is almost like a script from VH1 Behind the music the way they have the history part set up.

I got the mag last week and see no big deal about it other than the Beautiful Girls transcription.
The photos are just different photos of the same old photo sessions we've seen for 25 years. There wasn't one bit of info written in the VH piece that I didn't already know. However, it was nice to see the EVH pullout poster. In all, I think GW could have done a better job. A recent interview with someone from the band would have been nice.

The stuff on the cover teasing about a Zakk, Dime, and EVH album was a cheap shot at guitar fans as it's NEVER going to happen. What part of EVH hanging the phone up on Zakk and Dime, says he wants to do an album with them? And then saying he doesn't even know what's going on at his house. Sounds to me like the man is out of it, and unable to get it together. Not ready to make a guitar record. Especially after saying at NAMM that he hasn't really played guitar for the last few years.

Even though I wasn't thrilled with the issue, I was pleased to at least see something VH related in a guitar mag. I'd just rather see something current, even if it is no news, than old rehashed stuff we've been reading for 20 years.

Great issue!!!!

EVH was on the cover if you missed it... look on top of the 'G' (Guitar World)...

My favorite quote in the article was the snippet from Michael Anthony where they called him "Cannon Mouth" and when recording the 1st album they used one mic for the 3-part harmonies and Dave and Ed were right up on the mic but Mike was made to stand at the back of the room cause his vocals were so strong!!!!

Alex was pretty brutal in describing how weak Dave was in that he could only record the vocals one line at a time cause he couldn't remember shit...
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...
