Sperry makes mark
Simi Valleysenior runs fourth fastest time in meet history

LOS ANGELES - More than 3,200 cross country runners from 102 schools gathered Saturday for the 33rd annual Bell-Jeff Invitational at Griffith Park, where Simi Valley High senior Anna Sperry and a host of other local runners added fine performances to their already impressive resumes.

Sperry, a fifth-place finisher last week in the Woodbridge Invitational girls' sweepstakes race in Irvine, dropped 29 seconds off her 2005 meet-best clocking of 17 minutes, 17 seconds on the hilly 2.9-mile layout, but wound up finishing second in the girls' Div. I race.

Sperry's mark of 16:48 was the fourth-best time in meet history, 17 seconds off the record set in 2000 by North Hollywood's Natalie Stein.

Oakwood of North Hollywood junior Aric Van Halen (15:18) won the boys' Div. V race. Highland of Palmdale junior Jeremy Acosta (14:39) placed second in Div. I.

To the contrary. The guy obviously has fast legs. It will come in handy when time comes to perform the intro for "Hot For Teacher."

Alex's son or not (and I'm fairly certain it is his son), his time in the race is unbelievable. That's an average of 5 minutes, 15 seconds per mile over what the article says is a "hilly course". That's pretty damn good.........

Well it seems like a local newspaper article that maybe we are making national. It's not about Van Halen it's about a kid who has nothing to do with the band. I wasn't really sure where I stood on it anyways...just thinking about the kid really. Things can get kinda mean on here for a kid...

I think that's great!!!

My son runs cross country and he's a junior this year. We go to several meets to watch him. I hope Aric's pop supports him by watching the meets. It's kewl to see their times improve as they hit their own personal bests.

Way to go!
