Default A Quick Lesson In Human Perception

At the end of a week that saw people calling other people the devil, and a week that the Pope get taken out of context by a bunch of people who didn't hear him speak or read what he said in it's entirety, I thought I'd share a funny situation that I sit through every year in September.

For the last four years on the third weekend in September, my little motel is awakened by the thunder of around 25 Harley Davidsons. The guys who ride them are big, tatooed and rough-looking men. some have long-ish hair, almost all have Fu Man Chu mustaches or goatees. They swing off their bikes, dressed in black leather and thick biker boots and head into the lobby to sign in and get their keys. They are here for two days and they spend the evening sitting out front of the office drinking coffe while some go into town to hit the pubs.

They scare the crap out of the other guests.

Not because they do anything but because of how they LOOK. It starts the first night, the older couple on the second floor or the single mom on the third floor will come in and ask me if this is a safe neighborhood. I tell them that it's one of the safest in town (it is) and then I ask them why and they reffer to the men in black leather outside.

I tell them not to worry, those scarey looking guys are ALL FIREMEN from Southern California.

Wouldn't you know it? All of a sudden everything's okay and no, those nice men aren't really bothering me.

Tomorrow (Sunday) they will finish off their yearly ride North at the cemetary where these guys fulfill their promise to a fallen friend; where after a great ride on their hogs and a couple nights of fun, they gather at his grave-side to remember him.

You can't tell jack-shit by looks alone.

That would be the German thing to do.

Maybe one of our photoshoppers can have some fun combining him with Terminator II on a bike.
