Would we have heard the same music with different lyrics? Would VH have been radically different? I tend to think even with Dave they'd have had to change to remain fresh.

I'm not really sure what direction they would have gone in.

One thing I do think though, even if Dave had stayed, odds are that eventually their sales would have slowed down somewhat, or they would have made a mis-step with one of their albums. Every band that's been around for any length of time eventually releases an album that just doesn't catch on and sell up to their usual level. It's my feeling that VH would have had a III type release (acceptance wise) eventually, even with Dave in the group.

Yeah, but they would have set an example to stay away from annoying synthesyzed music. This is a major reason why Dave left. If he stayed Eddie would not have been involved in using a keyboard as much. Instead VH and the rest of the music world have steered down a different path.

And with Jump such a huge hit, Dave surely would have been shrewd enough to realize that there was a place for keyboards in VH's music after 1984.

Plus, though it's gone down in history that Dave was against Jump to begin with, he's made no attempt (and there's no reason why he should) to distance himself from that song just because it is keyboard based.

I disagree...Eddie played And The Cradle Will Rock on electric piano through a stack...He said Dave was cool with it because it didn't sound like keys...And Dave certainly had no problem with the #1 success of Jump...right?
