Really Rare 1980 Van Halen Footage is out there...

yes that 8mm stuff from st paul in 1980 is out but only 15 minutes? thats too bad as that is a gem for sure.

several years ago i talked to someone at a record show about various bootlegs and rare footage. i was talking about some rare caress of steel era rush footage he actually had which is very hard to find and he went on to talk about the 1980 tour and lack of footage of van halen that year live, and he told me a friend of his or him himself got a hold of the master reel of about 5 full songs from maple leaf gardens in 1980. and its basically never been watched or anything since the day it was filmed. its in 8mm of course (yea that documentary footage or whatever the band shot would be the pot of gold if that ever freakin surfaced)

does anyone else know about this? i dont think the guy was going to do anything about it but his website no longer functions and im not too sure how to get a hold the guy.

Regarding the Rumor about Toronto 1980 8mm footage.....

Turns out it was really 8mm footage from 5/15/1979 in Toronto @ MLG (confirmed by the set list).

It will acutally be out pretty soon......stay tuned.

Unfortunately, it is only around 20 minutes. With 8mm footage it was tough to get a whole show at the time. Better then nothing.

It has only been out in public for a few weeks, brand new shit....

how did you find out about this? if this is the same footage that guy was telling me about that was about 3 or even 4 years ago. it took a long time to get out... that is very interesting. if not then there is other footage from 1980 that guy is keeping under raps.
but either way man when this starts making the rounds PM me i am severely severely interested in this footage. and also maybe getting a dub of that St Paul footage from 1980 on dvd as well. thanks a ton for the info!

I got the St Paul 1980 DVD a few months back. The taper was pretty cool about making a few trades.

RM, You need to forget about mp3 sites like guitar101 ect...and get into some other trading circles where the good stuff is.

I had heard the Toronto 80 rumor for years as well. I think it was really the 79 footage, but you know how it goes, one person, tells , one person, who tells something else.

Few other rumors going around, maybe so other new stuff will turn up.

Regarding Jeff Hausmen(vhstore), Not sure what he has? This 79 show is not from him.

If you really want to check on people with some band connections, most rumors of the Largo 1980 video lead to Brad Starks....

no i go on jamtothis and what not but i do not have the means of downloading and burning dvds as my awful computer limits that severely.

so usually when stuff is going around im out of the loop video wise but mostly get audio. aw well hopefully ill have that st paul and this new toronto footage soon enough. rock on!

I am in your same boat DVD wise. Lots of good mail traders at JTT also. You can also try vhtrading.com, lots of mail trading there as well. Just don't trade anybody anything that is (MP3 sourced), that is considered crap at those 2 places.

i talked to the filmer of the toronto footage from 79 or 80 today actually. very cool dude who knows his stuff bigtime. i guess he gave up the footage because that other dude gave up that st paul footage from 80 as well.
that would be a sweet compilation.
it is cool to see die hard people like that. it is hard to come by these days.

The 79 Footage will be out soon enough, im having it Remastered to see if the quality can be improved... ill probably add it to a future VH Release or Upgrade. Its only 13M from 4 Reels with audio. The Screen shots are at VHTrading. But it will be released for all to enjoy.
