Well...it certainly is far easier for the Van Halen brothers to blame a guy that they hired than to actually accept responsibility for their own actions.

For some reason, throughout a thirty year career, Rush never seems to have seriously faltered, and are still at the top of their game. Neil Peart suffered the loss of both his daughter and wife within an eighteen month period, yet still the band was able to soldier on.

I'm not saying Ray Daniels was alone in holding Rush together through all of this, he certainly had help. By the same measure, he alone can not be held accountable for the disintegration of Van Halen. He had help there, also.

Primarily what came from Sam Hagar's unpublished "biography", where he roundly blasts the business dealings of the Van Halens as tied to Daniels. This was further backed up in an interview the Van Halens themselves gave at one time, yet I'll be damned if I can remember where.

Remember that during the 2004 tour, EVH wasn't speaking to the press. I'm not certain if Alex Van Halen's dennunciation of Daniels came at that time.

There are also the less than flattering comments in Dave Roth's "Crazy From The Heat" book, where Roth also takes several shots at "their management", painting Ray Daniels as a bottom-feeder, and seeking early "commissions" from Roth's involvement in the "reunion" dealings for the first "Best of" compilation.

Dont forget, Danniels worked out a contract from the VH's that he get a certain percentage of sales from the 1st six Roth records.. which is why they perhaps remastered them later... probably a contractual "out" for Ed & Al.

The man had no business taking ANY percentage of the work VH did before they hired him. He was a leech.

True..I do recall that he promised he'd get them a better royalty from WB's by renegotiating the royalty credits....I believe Sam mentioned this in his book. I believe Ray also had some outlandish demands on VH mach II as well. Sam had his shit together and had heard some stories about Ray. The fact that Sam was aware of the shaft being shoved up his ass, and demanded a different deal, led to some tension with the brothers. That's my guess anyway.

If I'm in a band with Sam and he's handing out business advice, I take it. Say what you want about whether or not he's the right singer for VH, but the dude knows how to make a buck.

no offense but Rush was no where near Van Halen in 1994-95. VH was one of the top 3 hard rock bands in the world at the time, the only other bands that could come close to them were Aerosmith and Metallica. Compare the amount of MTV time VH got in 95 to any ohter time in thier careers. they couldn't get a video on that station to save thier lives. No one will ever convince me that Not enough would not have been a huge radio hit if it was marketed the right way, Daniels lacked that ability. You might not like VH ballads but that song is 100 times better than Aerosmiths "don't wanna miss a thing" and look what that did.

daniels may have done fine for Rush but he bumbled VH.
