Default Van Halen and the Who

I saw Letterman last night and I thought it was going to be a huge band as THE WHO was going to happen.....but...it was just the 2 of them . Roger and Pete. Acoustic. Sounded like when Gary(whom I really don't care for)and eddie did that "Josephina"song.......I was pretty stoked listening to them because IT SOUNDED LIKE THE WHO. Anyways, sorry I'm blabbing, but.....if Eddie and Dave where up there and wrote a new one like Roge and Pete did, I'm SURE it would sound like the old days. I'm really rooting for Dave and Ed to get back together because WE ALL NEED IT.
As the Ramones would say,...HEY HO LET'S GO!!!

Yep The Who are now The Two.

And I hope those other two can get it together (with Mikey of course).

I'm sure Eddie and Dave could come up with some little bluesy type of song. One problem: GETTING THEM TOGETHER!!!!

I like the Who too, too bad Van Halen could not reform and do something. With only Pete and Roger they are continuing the Who's legacy, maybe Eddie is not concerned at all about the legacy of Van Halen, check that, he is certainly not concerned. My bad. After he gets this aforementioned solo project out of the way and out of his system, who knows. No pun intended.

The Who are the only other band in their hey day that captured the energy of that Van Halen did w/Roth, The Who are fucking awesome and they're coming to my neck of the woods Dec. 5th I'm planning on checking that out, I saw them prior to John dying and they were fucking awesome.

That didn't sound like the Who at all. More like Peter, Paul, and Mary. Minus Mary. And Daltrey's voice is gone, period. He's excruciating to listen to anymore, even on a mellow acoustic ballad like that.

Entwistle's death should have clued them in. Time to call it a day.

Why can't you just enjoy it? Do people like you think that if they arn't the same as they where when they where 25 they should just give it up. Townshend may be the best at what he does, write rock music with meaning. The fact that we are lucky to get any new Townshend music (with Daltry singing) is a historic moment and the people that complain that they aren't 20 year old should just up.

Actually, Moon's death should have been the first indication.

Well, that definitely was the end of the REAL Who, of course. But at least they remained somewhat a viable band after that. "Face Dances" and "It's Hard" weren't exactly "Who's Next" or "Quadrophenia" but they were decent enough records even without the madman behind the drum kit.

What really pissed me off about Entwistle's death was the way they were back on the road three fucking days later. That's just inexcusable.

But my objection to the new Daltrey/Townsend material is strictly musical. Daltrey's voice is gone. It's as simple as that. If he sounds that horrible on an acoustic ballad, would you really want to hear him try to scream out the "YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" in "Won't Get Fooled Again".

I'm with you on the musical part, yet I'm coming from the overall and total "sonics" of the band. "Face Dances" and "It's Hard" suffered not only from the general clueless nature of Townshend's writing, (which delt at the time with how the band and therefore how he was still relevant to the audience) yet from the loss of the explosive nature and propulsion of Moon's drumming.

Not that Moon was in the best of shape for "Who Are You" (he couldn't even come up with a part for "Music Must Change", so he didn't play and the band actually put the song out that way. ), yet it still sounded somewhat like the Who.

The track "Handsome Young Man" from the latest "Greatest Hits" sounds just like "Face Dances" or "It's Hard": like a Pete Townshend solo record, with Daltrey doing "guest" vocals.

There was an ad in Friday's local paper here, promoting the Who show coming in November. The ad promises "The Who: Uncensored, blah blah blah." and promising tracks old and new, plus their new 'mini-opera".

When 2 of the essential members of a band are dead and one is past his "sell by" date, it's sort of takes away from the legacy, and I agree with your assessment of the crassness of continuing on so quickly after Entwistle's death.

It's not entertainment at that point, it's simply bad taste.
