New EVH Amp
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. It's been a while since I've been here, and the place has changed a bit. Also, sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.
In the background of the video for "Catherine", you can see an amp head with an EVH plate on it, plus it's marked 5150-III.
I've been hearing rumors since the beginning of the year that Fender is going to come out with an EVH signature amp. Anybody know if that's it? Is it just a Peavey I'm not aware of, or maybe a proto-type?
(If this has been discussed in another thread, could someone link me to it? Thanks.)What is understood need not be discussed.
I like relish.©

I think that if EVH was going to come out with an amp, my guess the soonest it would come out would be Winter NAMM. The new catherine video is interesting to me, because it obviously shows that EVH has been working on a new amp, and the house of petals show as well, but the guitar is still the Wolfy with the sustainer that was used on the first leg of the 2004 tour, so either he doesnt feel the need to make a new guitar or he is in one of the longest R&D processes in history.

I don't think it's a new amp... It looks like a 5150II with new badges...

I don't believe the theory about the customized 5150II, to me it looks like a new amp, more knobs, the panel is a different size, etc...
I have the feeling Ed will release a new amp under his own name.

personally it not only looks but sounds like a 5150II. I think that it's not impossible that it is a new amp but we all know how Ed likes to fuck with his equipment and put a new badge and amp assembly around a 5150, unlike the wolfgang guitar which peavey totally redesigned, the 6505 still looks like Ed's old gear and so Ed probably is seperating himself from that. I just think that in the day and age of business/internet that if Ed was that far along on a new amp to have it "finished" enough to be on a recording and a vid that the company would have promoted it. I could be wrong but just my 5 cents worth? Opinions?

I think the more important question is who would want one? Judging by his tone over the last few years his amps sound like shit. I had a 5150 and it was great for metal.
IMO his last great tone was the Balance tour. Ever since it's sounded like a buzzsaw to me.My Band

What I want to say is that, imo, Ed's new amp won't be a full on collaboration like he did with Peavey. I think his own amp will be released under his own "brand".
But then again it's just my opinion, I don't even know if that kind of deal can exist and I'm sure I'll be dead wrong in a few months, lol.

Yeah I think the amp in the Catherine video is some sort of prototype. It just looks not finished. It has stripes and that small 5150 III badge. My guess is that it's a tweaked 5150 II. It still has the same basic sound to my ears and if he is tweaking it he is probably not close to finished with it but is taking it out to run it through its paces. Wouldn't surprise me at all because I don't think Eddie will ever stop tweaking his gear. Will it ever see production? Maybe not. Maybe this is just something he is doing for himself and has no intention of ever mass producing.

I love my 5150 Combo very much. But, having said that, if I buy another amp (which will probably never happen) I would probably buy a Marshall or an old Soldano. I already have an EVH amp so it would have to be drastically diffferent to warrant buying another one.
If he does come out with a new one, I question his "relevance" to today's music scene and don't think it will sell as like it would have in the mid 1990's...Jet City Super Stealth

If Eddie puts out a new signature amp I predict it will be made by Marshall or maybe Soldano. (I actually heard somewhere that the album 5150 was recorded with a Soldano...)
I must admit that Fender does seem like the obvious company due to the Charvel link with the guitars and everything ... I just don't see Fender making a high gain amp to Eddie's liking. Who knows ... anything is possible. Eddie seems to be going back to his "original ways" with his signature gear ... look at the MXR pedals and the old school paint jobs on the pedals and custom guitars. The next piece of the puzzle is a hot rodded Marshall with a variac. BROWN sound custom made to order. I'd buy one of those over an EVH Fender. I have an old original 5150 half stack which is awesome but I still play my JCM 800 half stack anyday over the 5150. If Marshall had an EVH signature amp I'd buy it in a second. To me the 5150 doesn't sound a thing like EVH. The only thing that comes close is the JCM 800 with a little delay and an EVH phase 90. Put a harmonizer in the mix and you get the modern EVH sound. As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.

I can't get by listening to a live album in which the only live part about it is the crowd noise. Makes no fucking sense, they were without a doubt the best live band on the planet at that point....
