What's Ed's beef with Mike anyway?

I heard the Stern interview. I just don't get this guy anymore. He's mad because he's playing in "The Other Half" with Sammy and he's calling it a cover band. Yet he says he's willing to play with Dave who is pretty much doing the same thing, playing all VH tunes. What's the guy supposed to do??? Wait every 5 - 7 years to do another VH album??? Maybe if they put out albums and toured more frequently he wouldn't have come up with the idea of selling hot sauce. At first I got caught up with all the B.S. about him doing it but now it's like who cares. So he did something outside the band. Big deal. I just didn't care for Sammy doing it on stage and telling me all the ingrediants that went into it, then getting cheap applause for having a hot piece of ass surve it up. And isn't there and interview with with M.A. somewhere that says he couldn't do the reunion unless he gave up the publishing rights to all the VH tunes?

I can't believe that of all the people he's doesn't care for these days it's Michael Anthony who seems like the most normal one of the band. This is just sad.

I don't really understand it either. The only thing I can think of is that he believes Mike has sided with Sam and abandoned VH the band. Maybe there is more to this than we will ever know. There has to be because it really doesn't make sense. We know that Eddie's has thought about replacing Mike for quite some time, even back when Dave was still very much in the band, so maybe it goes back to then. Sounds like Mike is out this time for sure though.

Sounds to me like he's got a beef with just about any one who's name is brought up - Mike, Sam, Dave, Clapton, Hendrix, etc. - except Al and Wolfie.

I know Ed has wanted to replace Mike as far back as 81, but I think his bitterness now could be jealousy. What could Ed be jealous of? Lets see, Mike is still happily married to his highschool sweetheart and has a family life. He can drink without being an alcoholic. You could also argue that Mike "stole" his best friend in Sammy.

Oh, and add in the fact that Ed stupidly gave Mike 25% writing credit which is his own damn fault.

I think for a majority of people, if Dave were to give it a go 'round with VH, people would flock to see it. But if Mike weren't involved I think a lot of us diehards wouldn't see it like everyone else would. At least I wouldn't anyway. I want the original 4! Not Billy Sheehan or anybody else. I want Michael Anthony.

I think Eddie was just trying to get a few jabs in on the Not-Brothers.
Dave has been commenting on Ed for a while.
Sam has been doing the same.
And Mike finally spoke up.

Most weren't all that bad, but there were a few digs here and there.
I just Eddie wanted to get some in of his own. I didn't see them as mean as some people have.

As for the Mike thing in specifics, I'd bet Eddie was trying to point out that w/o Van Halen, Michael Anthony would have never existed, and Sobeleski's Hot Sauce would have never had the publicity that Mad Anthony's gets via VH's celebrity.

I don't think Ed really ever respected Mike or his contributions. He was itching to replace him as far back as 1981. I think Ed felt Mike had been given the golden goose, and was living under the fruit of Ed's genious. In short, Mike was the luckiest guy on earth and should thank Ed every day and night. He would have absolutely no career without Ed. So when Mike turned around and played with Sam in 2002.....it was taking sides against the family. It was a stab in the back. He was an ungrateful S.O.B. Then after Ed forgives him and lets him be part of the 2004 tour--he turns around and does it again.

That's how I think Ed feels.

And another thing. I don't want to hear anybody complaining about Dave taking jabs at Ed...you know Van Heinaken (or however you spell it). Ed clearly took shots at Mike and his weight. I'm sure you'd hear more jabs from Ed if he actually did more interviews. Alex also took a jab at Dave during a CNN interview with Sammy during their '04 reunion tour saying he felt sorry for Sammy for having to tour with Dave during the Sam & Dave tour.

ok it may be old news to most of you guys but being from england we have virtually no news on van halen but after talking to someone who claims to be "in the know" (i have no doubt to dis believe him) ...van halen will make a return soon and mikey is most probably not going to be in the band and the bass player will be....wolfgang van halen i do not know who the singer will be but its likely to be dave and also ed had a solo cd coming out sometime in the near future.
i dont claim any of these facts to be 100% accurate or even slightly true its just the news i heard maybe ive been a sucker.

This is so stupid to listen to everyone try to figure Ed out. I laugh everytime the guy opens his mouth. He's a D#$. Ask anyone who's met him, or listen to him try to do interviews. Maybe Ed's mad at Mike because Mike had to show him how to play his guitar parts on stage during the last tour. Maybe he's mad at Mike because he's making stupid life decisions and screwing everyone in the music biz. Mike told it exactly as it was in his "burn" interview.
Mike should thank Ed.... What???? That little F@#$ should thank Mike for putting up with years of his Crap.. on and off stage.
And for the record, it's Sobolewski.

It's Ed's band and he can do whatever he wants with it.
Would be cool to see Mike with the CVH reunion, but I doubt that will happen. Who knows.

I agree 100% he (Ed) feels that Mikey has sided with Sam.
They hang out alot they play together a bunch and Ed sees that.
You know Mike is not just the Bass player in VH. He has got the best background vocals in the buisness!! He made those albums and
participated just like the rest of them....Those records would not be
the same if you take out Mikes playing and backround vocals!!
I dont care what anyone says..It sure seems to me from that interview that Mike is out..Ed said the Wolfie is in..is What it sounds like to me?
Hope im wrong,I think Ed will do somthing with out Mike just out of spite!

And to boot hes the nicest guy in the band.
He takes time out for the fans, and he really does give a shit!!
