The Lost and Found Thread

Thought it might be fun to have a thread to talk about what the Linkers have lost and or found in their days.

When I was a teenager my friend found $10,000 cash

in a bank envelope in front of a restaurant.

I found a class ring when I was a kid. I did some research on the school and the initials and found the owner. This dude knocks on my door and says <in a stoner butthead voice> "hey man I'm the dude that lost the ring". I hand him the ring and he just said "thanks" and walked off. I was expecting a 5 spot, a joint

or something

Oh, I once found a $20 bill in a bar parking lot.

Anyone?.........

Okay I'll bite.

I lost a hand-tooled leather wallet that used to be my grandmother's, which contained $700 and all my cards and ID. One of my neighbors said that a person at the store where I left it asked her if she knew me and to let me know that my wallet was there. I've gone back there several times and every time nobody knows a thing about it.

I've also left a wallet in a shopping cart in the parking lot of a store. Drove about 5 miles down the road before realizing the loss of said wallet. Returned to the store and found the cart with my wallet still there. Of course, there wasn't $700 in it but at least I found it.

It's that other wallet that's driving me bonkers!!

I had gone to the store with my sister and my fiancee a few months back and picked up a $20 bill while I was wandering around and stuck it in my pocket. I wandered back over to where they were milling around (Women mill around, men wander) just in time to hear my sister say "Oh shit! I can't find my 20!" I reached into my pocket and said "Here it is."

I had no idea that it was hers, but damn, is she lucky or what?

On another note, I have lost two wallets in my life and on both occasions they had $37 in them. I got the second one back, minus the money. They found it at a neighbors house behind a huge entertainment center. They thought that maybe their 18 year old son had taken it, as we were all out partying the night that it disappeared, but I always suspected another guy that was with us that night that lived right across the street from us. Never could prove anything though.

Another one...We were swimming off my pontoon boat one day and my bud jumped in and lost his wallet.

All of us policed the area with our feet to try and find it..no luck...Then another friend pulled up in his boat. We told him what had happened. Well, he jumps in literally on the wallet...pulls it up and says "Is this it"

I lost my car/house keys at my the girlfriends house (she's my wife now). I live in the house now and those thing's have never turned up! It still drives me crazy, I drove there fooled around on the couch and then tried to leave. I basically took her couch a part looking for them, I have no idea where they could be (this was 2 years ago).

Walking home from high school my freshman year, my friend and I found almost $600 blowing down the highway. I used the money to buy my first Sammy Hagar album (this is 1978).

Some Japanese guy left his 35 mm camera in the store and after 30 days it was mine. Piece of shit it turned out later.

Every pair of sungalsses I've had were lost by someone else, Ray Bans and Varnets.

Hiking out at Fort Ord I've found: 75mm shells, .50 Cal casings from Korean War era, SAW ammo boxes, commo wire, Claymore wire, filliment from wire-guided weapons, MRE & C-ration cans, practice 203 rounds, practice AT-4 attachments, pins from handgrenades, boots and a tail gate from a Hummer.

I've lost an Ibanez Fanger and an Ibanez Analog Dely.

I've been lucky, knock on wood, I've only lost a wallet once back when I was 13 and there wasn't anything in it. I did loose a credit card two years ago but I actually lost it, it wasn't stolen.
