Me Wise Magic
I had Best Of Vol. I in the car over this past weekend. I simply can't get enough of "Me Wise Magic." This song is so fucking awesome!! It's kind of like "what could have been..." But, in the end, was not.
Eddie jams in this song. The solo section and the part at the end before the outro are probably the last great things I've heard him do!!
Anybody else love this song???

Great, great song. When I first heard it I thought we were in for a kickass new album with Dave. Still an awesome song to add to the VH catalog though.

Very underrated tune, for me when I first heard it I was taken back to my teen years cranking the shit outta "Fair Warning" Ed's playing is INSANE and even though they say Daves voice was multitracked and doctored I still thoroughly enjoy this track ...
At the time most of my friends where singing the praises of Humans Being, and yes its also a awesome track in its own right, ut now some 10 years ( fuck has it been tha long already) most in the past few years have come to really think "Me Wise Magic" was the killer track on the album.
Oh what could of been
Hopefully one day we'll all get to sit down with a 8 track EP of "Me Wise Magic" , "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and those 6 DLR front tracks recorded in 2000/01 that are supposed to smoke! ( according to Mike and Daves reports)

How ironic...I've been listening to "Best Of" and Fair Warning for the past two or three days and on my way home a few minutes ago I was thinking about MWM and CGTSNM and how much of an "extension" of Fair Warning they seem to be...to my ear, it has always seemed like these tracks pick up where Fair Warning left off...Originally Posted by Spool

I loved it the first time I heard. The layers of guitar sounds just blew me away. Yet, it was very raw sounding (that's a good thing).

You're right. The sustainer era. I think Eddie's worn out that sustainer.Originally Posted by tease

And, yeah, Dave's vox are doctored and multi-layered, but it works so well in Me Wise Magic.

I love Me Wise Magic. For me it is an important song because it is the reuniting of the original four underneath the evolution of their playing. I remember hearing it on the radio and the DJs saying "we gotta play this again". Inevitably, the calls to the studio inquired about the halycon days of VH (or as Sucka and I say "The Dark Side") with callers asking "what was it like to see them live with Dave?".
I also remeber an audio clip of Eddie and Alex from an LA radio station when it was released saying "just play it again." "We haven't had these kind of goosebumps hearing ourselves on the radio since we first heard ATBL over the airwaves."
wow, ten years, where've they gone...

The two new Dave songs on the 'Best Of' made me super excited for how great the next VH could/should have been. Honestly, though, I wasn't too taken with Roth's performances on either song. His lyrics were vague and not the pun/common phrases/ironic bits we'd come to know from him, and he just didn't deliver on the notes; the high "can't get this stuff no more" screams were plain awful--like they'd worked long and hard to get those performances out of him and that was the best they could get. But, overall, the songs are pretty awesome. (Let's not forget to credit Glen Ballard and Erwin Musper for their roles in the sonic quality.)
