Bass amp question

see if someone can help me out with this. our bass players bass amp when plugged directly into sounds normal, he usually uses an effects pedal of sorts (not sure exactly what kind) and when he plugs in through this, there will be squealing. weird part is it didn't always do that. anyone?

Stupid question, i know, but a lot of people don't always think of that one (myself included). If it sounds fine without the pedal and it's not the cables, then it has to be the pedal (unless it's not the only other piece of equipment in the signal path). Is it running on a battery or AC? Could be the battery. Otherwise, the pedal is probably shot. Can he try it out on a different bass rig?

Take the effect down to the music store and have him try it with a bunch of different amps and see what happens.

well it works fine with other bass rigs we have used. just squeals with the one we use. but it didn't always do it, that's the weird part

But have you tried it with any other rigs recently? If you haven't, then something may have developed with the pedal since the last time it was used with another rig and it's the pedal. Unfortunately, it may be time to check out the warranty.

yeah we've tried it recently. it seems like sometimes the pedal will make it squeal...and then sometimes it won't. very weird
