    Default Question about Summer Nights

I am not a guitar player but I have a question for you guys. Ed used the trans term on summer nights-I think that's what it was called. When Sam did it this summer Vic used a regular guitar, now I didn't notice that much of a difference, I know vic ain't ed but the overall sound didn't sound that different to me. So I wanna ask you guys how much of a difference does the trans term make on this song? Do you guys-as guitar players hear a difference and do you think the song is ruined with a regular guitar?

Little nuances won't sound the same, but the song can be played on a regular guitar. You just have to use your index finger as a capo on some parts. Eddie basically used a transtrem to modulate the key while using the
same G-C-A, etc. chord shapes at the same position.

With a transtrem, when you depress the whammy bar, all strings slacken or tighten in tune. That's kind of a key thing. With a normal trem, they just go all out of tune when you use the whammy.

This whole explanation goes for Me Wise Magic as well because he used the transtrem on that one too.

How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

Yeah just use a capo on a regular gitter and it's played essentially the same way...G D A and sounds identical. I play it all the time with a Strat.

I use a Shub capo, one flick of the finger, it falls off, and then do the bar dive. Summer Nights is a fun song to play but the pull-off's are a bitch. When you listen to Ed play it, it is flows so smooth.
