Bought My First Vacuum Cleaner!! aka "When You First Felt You Were Independent"thread
Alright I guess the title sounds random as hell, but I just thought like sharing some thoughts that occured on me today. The most important might be, when you spend 90 bucks on a hoover just for the sake of it, even when it takes 2 minutes to clean up every corner in my room, eight times - it might really prove that home is where you make it, no matter how small the living space actually is. I haven't been "home" for seven months, and for the last half a year I've been totally supporting myself on my own. I look at my blood-and-sweat earned two guitar aplifiers with shitload of accessories, two PCs, full table covered with Lord of the Rings hand-made miniatures, utility, rent bills and taxes for the last half a year - all paid by myself BUT, I still felt attached to my old home. Up until today's purchase of the vacuum cleaner! Actually feels odd to be honest. Is it the same with everyone or the feeling of independence usually comes from the moment of leaving for something new?
And on a sidenote - I'm Electrolux guy for life lol

I think my big breakthrough was doing my own laundry.

My moment is when I actually had to buy a bed. No more mooching off friends, no more college dorm bed, no pullout couch. I knew I was definitely on my own!
Nothing to see here.

The day I moved into a tiny "studio apartment" that was actually a spare bedroom sectioned off from the rest of a larger apartment by the owner and rented out.
San Clemente, Ca - 1993, 275 beans a month, and a stone's throw from a goddamn nice beach.
No kitchen, no stove......just enough room for a futon, my bike, TV, a toaster oven and a tiny little icebox. Even so, I still kinda miss it.LowLifeFlatHeadScum

My "awakening" actually occurred when I was still living at home as a senior in high school. I'd just turned 18 and had just lost my mom to cancer. I suddenly realized that I would take on the "mom" role. The first time I went to the grocery store to actually buy groceries (rather than just going to the store for a few things), cleaning supplies, etc. was really strange. I remember going through the entire house trying to figure out everything I needed to buy, what my dad needed, if I had a clue how to actually cook dinner for my dad and sister, etc. I remember wondering how the hell my mom did all that AND taught school. I suddenly realized that these were some of the things I'd be doing soon b/c I was going off to college. It was one of those, "I'm growing up and becoming an adult" moments. Very strange feeling...

I've been in my current house for 3.5 years. Technically it is my second house, but I view it as my first house since my first house was a complete pile of smashed monkey nuts. I sold it less then a year after I bought it.
I just bought my first new couches about 6 months ago. A Lazy boy couch and love seat. They are a huge upgrade over my 30 year old couches I got as donations from my aunt and sister!"What we are dealing with here, is a complete lack of respect for the law" - Jackie Gleason, Smokey and the Bandit
