New Orleans' mayor criticizes New York's WTC delays
'You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed'
Friday, August 25, 2006; Posted: 7:41 a.m. EDT (11:41 GMT)
NEW YORK (AP) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin criticized efforts to redevelop the World Trade Center site when confronted in a television interview about delays in rebuilding his city after Hurricane Katrina.
During the CBS "60 minutes" interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans' devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair," according to CBS.
The program is scheduled to air Sunday night. Text and a video clip from the Nagin piece were posted on CBS' Web site Thursday.
The chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the agency created to oversee the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and downtown Manhattan, said that tremendous progress has been made in lower Manhattan, with the Freedom Tower, a transportation hub and a memorial to the nearly 3,000 attack victims under construction.
"We understand how difficult rebuilding a city after such destruction can be," chairman Kevin Rampe said in a statement.
Nagin, known for his blunt style, is not the first to compare the two cities. New Orleans residents frequently complain that the federal government's response after Katrina has been far more sluggish than it was after the September 11 attacks."What we are dealing with here, is a complete lack of respect for the law" - Jackie Gleason, Smokey and the Bandit

I swear I hate that fucking guy!!! Ray is such a shitfume, and to top it off, the freaks down in N.O. reelect the guy. Typical Louisiana politics.

Is this guy for real? The devastation was cleaned up a year after 9/11 because NYC took control and made it happen using many different resources. The memorial has not been built (therefore, there is still a hole in the ground) due to the varying opinions on how to best honor the people who died. And if the residents of LA want to complain, they should have elected someone like Guiliani who makes things happen. This guy didn't use the resources he had beforehand to get people out of the city using school buses.

This guy is just a cock fucker. He has a serious problem of speaking before thinking. The messed up part of all this, everyone is marking the anniversary of Hurriance Katrina, yet a few weeks after another hurricane hit in SW Lousiana. This one was just as powerful, yet didn't hit a "major" city. Big difference here, people had the sense to get out of Dodge before it hit-unlike N.O. Also, you didn't see on the news people around here asking for the government to help and bail them out. You also didn't see people bitching and whining they didn't get the "help" they wanted. Sure, we got help and people who needed it used it. However, they aren't like some of these ass bags.mn
